Guest guest
Hello group. A patient that I treated a month ago contacted me today and said that I caused thrombophlebitis in her left leg the last time that I treated her. She was coming to me for sciatica. I treated Lu 7, UB 53, 54,40, 59, GB 29 34, 39, and 32. I used e-stim. I talked to her doctor who said she did not think it was from the acupuncture, but possible. I have also researched and it does seem that a person could get phlebitis in this way. I am wondering if anyone else has had this experience or knows of a situation like this and what to do to avoid it. Do I not do acupuncture on people with veriscosities? I did not needle especially close to any of them. Input would be appreciated. Petra Buchanan.
Guest guest
Thrombophlebitis is a systemic problem and the disease or tendency to the disese is inherited and influenced by life style, especially diet, various drugs and lack of exercise. My mother has Thrombophlebitis, I was free of any until 28 yo. It happened overnight, practically speaking, brought on by the lifestyle I led in those days, and left me without the normal use of my left leg and with a lot of pain. Contrary to your patient, I got acupuncture treatments, Korean (at the time)(don't know your style), and credit it with turning me around. I have treated my mom with Chinese style acupuncture and I have been treated for years in China and in student clinics and never had a problem. Beware, patients sometimes look for someone to blame...
