Ear Infection - Adult

Hello All!

This coming tuesday, I am seeing a 62 yo F with a 2 week ear

infection. She is on antibiotics. Her hearing is diminshed since the

infection and she has fluid in her ear.

I know that this isn´t a lot of information but I was wondering if

anyone has seen this before (I have, but only once) and if anyone has

any suggestions.

I was thinking about ear coning but I do not know if this is safe and I

am not sure that I can buy them here anyway (I live in Europe).

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

One of my patients recently told me that her physician

recommended this remedy for swimmer's ear, (which can

quickly move into infection): Apply high proof vodka

to a cotton ball and insert cotton in ear. This dries

out the canal without hurting the ear. Moist, warm

ears are fertile grounds for infections. NEVER put

alcohol directly in the ear.

Hello,

I have read and used equal parts alcohol and hydrogen peroxide when living in

the tropics and swimming regularly. After swimming I would put a few drops of

the mixture into the ears and massage around the ears. I would then drain the

mixture out. I never had a swimmer's ear again and previously I had them

regularly.

Of course, everyone is different.
