Guest guest
Hi Mike, I know you're not asking about herbs, but i have observed a handfull of seeming miracles with this product from Tango Advanced Nutrition for expediting the healing of fractures. highly recommended. http://www.puretango.com/osteophase.html also in Tom Bisio's " Tooth from the Tiger's Mouth " book, he says: - avoid cold, raw foods and iced drinks - eat foods that tonify the qi and blood. - avoid shellfish during the acute and bone knitting stages (wks 1-5) - avoid fatty, fried foods. he offers more details about the stages of fracture healing and simple herbal/acup. techniques for promoting healing. in general it's a well written book on basics of TCM sports medicine, which i recommend checking out if you haven't yet. it's rather basic/laymen friendly, dealing more with herbal liniments and polstices, etc..., and extremely rudimentary on the acupuncture. but a great book nonetheless. I found its explanations of TCM lifestyle advice and chinese self-care exercises to be especially useful when encouraging patients to understand how simple lifestyle modifcations can have profound effects on healing or preventing injuries. for that part alone, i thought it was $14 bucks very well spent. speedy healing to your friend. ~edith -- Edith Chan, L.Ac. Guest guest
Hi Mike, I don't have a dietary suggestion, but it has come to my attention from patients who had spinal fusions that they needed to stop smoking during the healing process, because smoking impairs bone growth. my 2 cents. Guest guest
Using the principles of like cures like Broken Bone soup would be indicated. Use organic or 100% pasture raised bones (preferably mammal). Simmer on low temperature for at least 12 hours, preferably for more than 24 hours; add 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar to help the bone break down and extract some of the essence in the marrow. From a western herbal standpoint, a comfrey poultice would be my first choice. -- Peace, David Caruso-Radin, L Ac, MQP, Dipl. ABT
Guest guest
Sounds like a good idea, David! I had asked her to do this, only to cook for 6 hours. Yes, adding vinegar makes a big difference from my past experience! Thanks, Mike L.
