Janis et alia,

I highly recommend Kendall's Dao of (got mine on

amazon.com) for pretty much ANY practitioner of chinese medicine

practicing in the western world. This in-depth treatise works all the

way back to retranslating the classics directly into english, thereby

avoiding the faulty translations promulgated by non-medically minded

french jesuit missionarys so long ago, on which most western-language

CM understanding and EDUCATION is based.

Mark,

I don't agree with you about translation. Not everything in

Chinese medicine came from the Jesuit missionaries, perhaps you are

thinking about Soulie de Morant's work, but there has been decades of

literature since then. Deke Kendall has his opinions about

translation, but not everyone agrees that the material in the Nan

Jing and Su Wen is the same as modern Western physiology. The

definitive translation of the the Nei Jing Su Wen Ling Shu will be

the version by Paul Unschuld and Herman Tessanow from University of

California Press. The next volume in the series will be a huge

concordance/dictionary of terminology.

Do we know when this will be published. I have the other works by

Unschuld, and they are amazing.
