Guest guest
The difficulty is that the MD's have an unrestricted license and only in a few states have admitted that they need ANY education to do acupuncture. Malpractice suits will help, perhaps. I am just one person, but it is my belief that if we just increased their required education to a reasonable level like 700 hours of actual class and clinical training (this was the level that every other country besides the US thought was right in Milan) for what the WHO calls, I think, clinical adjunctive treatment (not including actual acupuncture diagnosis and treatment plans and followups), that we will see only serious folks doing acupuncture and not weekend wonders with 50 hours and 120 hours of video. Thisis the MINIMUM that consumers deserve and would be a step in the right direction toward a unified education in acupuncture by all professions. The question is whether those who teach MD's DO's and DC's can let go of their lucrative short programs and face the realityof what they are doing to both their students and the students patients with this truncated education. On another point, we do need to look at these people doing " peer " reviews of real professional acupuncturists. These (fill in your own expletive) see they can't really practice acupuncture but have to get a return on their educational expenses by doing the " peer " reviews with a focus on further reviews instead of on the welfare of the patient. If you let someone do so, he or she will be engaging in an unsuitable action and accumulating bad karma that will harm the person in the future. Thus it is permissable, with an altruistic motivation, to take counteraction in order to prevent the other person from having to undergo the effects of this wrong action.
