Guest guest
Students will soon no longer able to sit for the CALE w/out attending school. It is my understanding that the schools petitioned the board for the ruling. I believe that unless a student has been accepted as an apprentice for the past year they are ineligible. I haven't seen post as yet. But i took the CALE test this last time through, and there was what they are calling a " breach " of security. We have not been told what the supposed breach is. We have been told that will receive our scores within one to two months (after a month of waiting), but they feel they have the right to make the test void if they desire it and force us (all 700!) to take it again. She called me to see if I would work with her in this way. I found the call odd, since it was out of the blue and I do not know this woman. I thought perhaps others on these lists might have also received calls from her, and I'm wondering if this is some sort of a scam. I'm also wondering if anyone knows what the specific requirements are for learning as an apprentice, or where I can find out about them. Lastly, my preference would be to refer her to an existing program - do any of you know of such programs?Thank you,, L.Ac.Got a little couch potato? Guest guest
Dear Tym, I am sorry to hear of the state of affairs with the CALE exam. I took that exam in 2002 and remember it as a grueling experience. A breach of security usually implies that some or all of the questions on the exam were " leaked " prior to students taking it. I hope it all works out for you. Thanks to everyone for your input about apprenticeship regulations. Indeed, state regulations spell out what kinds of training are acceptable for licensure, so contacting Pete at the Arizona Acupuncture Board (the state I currently practice in) is the best idea. So far, this woman and I have been playing phone tag, and we have a phone call scheduled for Sunday morning. I will encourage her to look at the educational requirements for each state she is considering practicing in, and also for the NCCAOM, before she invests herself in this route. I haven't gotten her last name, but I believe, Christopher, this is the same person who called you. miracles28 <jellyphish wrote: Students will soon no longer able to sit for the CALE w/out attending school. Guest guest
Tym,I can relate and was a part of the group that hired a law firm in 1996. Boy was that informative. The NCCAOM will be eliminating its apprenticeship route in 2010. You can go to www.nccaom.org and open the pdf magazine on the home page. Hope this helps. Sorry to hear about this stuff with CALE. Apprenticeship is under the state (CA) statutes and therefore trumps a rule of the board. They must change this with a legislative amendment or bill, if I understand govt correctly. There will also be a public posting of any such change on the CAB website stating as much. Until this happens, nothing has changed. Mike W. Guest guest
Tym, As I mentioned in an earlier post, this will need to be done through a change in statute, not a regulatory change. If legislation is introduced and passed next year, the earliest that the program would be eliminated is January 1, 2009. The board has indicated that it would intend to grandfather any tutorial students in the program at the time new legislation kicks in. Also, this was not something that was initiated by the schools. The topic arose without apparent external stimulus during California Acupuncture Board strategic planning discussions earlier in the year. --Bill. -- Bill Mosca, LAc San Francisco CA mosca On Sep 14, 2007, at 10:51 PM, miracles28 wrote: > Students will soon no longer able to sit for the CALE w/out attending > school.
