Guest guest
2 dermatology cases came in today. the first is a young (13yf) runner with a corn on the plantar surface of the left heel. the second is a 23yf (just began her first post grad school job as a social worker for the VA) reporting scabies. this is a new patient, whom i've treated twice with excellent result for liv yg rising dizziness & h/a (worse for stress). she has an appt wed when i will be able to examine her (she phoned today to alert me to the acute onset of the new condition). she's thinking it's scabies based on a similar presentation she has seen in a friend with a positive diagnosis for scabies, and the burrowing quality of the legions. i do not yet know if there is a known, recent exposure. I have the derm in TCM (big yellow derm book) and had planned to tx according to recomendations from the book. i wondering if those with experience tx either of these conditions could comment with tx advice on what has worked well in your clinic. i do both acu and herbs: raw and granule pharmacies in my office. i'm esp. interesting in how to make a positive ID for scabies. thanks in adv, kath -- Kath Bartlett, LAc, MS, BA UCLA Oriental Medicine Experienced, Dedicated, Effective Asheville Center For 70 Woodfin Place, Suite West Wing Two Asheville, NC 28801 828.258.2777 kbartlett www.AcupunctureAsheville.com
Guest guest
In my experience, don't mess with it. It is so highly contagious you will be putting your other patients at risk. Also, because she is a social worker, she is putting people at risk every day she does not apply the fated RX cream (kwell or some other). Yes, I know it is toxic, but it's one dose, followed up by another in 10 days. And don't believe the baloney about one dose. I know a couple who kept getting reinfected because they didn't follow directions. They didn't want to put the toxic cream on themselves and tried to go holistic. Eventually they had to put on the cream 2 or more times. They could't go to work or even see eachother. The woman had gone to see a massage therapist the day before she found out, so he just treated himself; he didn't wait. Good advice. Tea Tree Oil in the bath is very effective as a daily routine, but not as much if the scabies have surfaced already (ie track marks). There are plenty of images on the internet. an opinion from experience.
