Guest guest
Hi Beata: I don't follow your reasoning. From what I gathered, Yehuda did not reference intractable or horrific pain. It could be argued on the other side of the coin that some would rather die facing their (perhaps horrific) pain, than to die, unknowingly, in a drug-induced stupor. I believe that pretty much everyone on this list concurs that certain types of pain need to be treated symptomatically as quickly and completely as possible. Where we draw that line is ill-defined, largely because it depends on the particular time, place, patient and practitioner. Could you tell us more about your experiences, and what parts of CM you brought to bear on the problems you encountered? This would be very enlightening. Finally, in the Buddhist and Daoist tradition it is imperative that people die with two factors in place: to be clear of mind, and to be pain-free. We could say, however, that the real meaning of this is " peacefully " , and it is possible (although unusual) to die peacefully without the two previously mentioned factors being in place. Having spent some time in a hospice program as an acupuncturist I have seen the ravaging effects of illness, debilitation, and intractable pain. I have seen those unfortunate souls who have died in horrific pain for whom nothing could be done. I came to greatly admire the " No Pain " credo that offends you so.The hospice patients wanted to pass with dignity and peace but it is darned difficult to do that when pain takes over. I'll bet not one of them saw their pain as a 'gift'. I pray when my time comes that I will go gracefully and easily, with or without pain meds as needed.
