" and it all begins from understanding the interconnectivity of

the body, and honoring it in order to help

it become balanced. "

Yehuda, thank you for your response about pain management !

I began working life as an ecologist, and it is especially heartening to be

reminded (again and again) of what you write above. my school seems to

devolve into teaching 'western medicine lite' too often ; it is awareness of

this

web, though which I believe is a huge strength of chinese medicine, a big

part of its needed complement not only to our medicine but to our culture also.

The notion of this web is right in tune with the conversation about pain as

one possible aspect of a life- not 'the' thing to be eliminated, but something

related top many other aspects, through which it may indeed be seen as the

'good pain' that patients describe...

I shared the link to the Stephen Gascoigne book with my classmates , on a

list which included some teachers. We've been taught to look for typical

results of some western meds (antibiotic use showing up frequently as 'cold' for

instance) and I thought it would be wonderful to deepen this pool of knowledge.

Below is one teachers response:

" PLEASE NOTE - IT IS NOT WITHIN YOUR SCOPE OF PRACTICE to suggest that

patients alter/discontinue/reduce or substitute medications for

acupuncture or any herbal remedy. This constitutes practicing medicine

and unless you are (an MD in our class) or have a MD or DO license this is a

big NO

NO!!! "

I would like your reflections on this.It seemed an extreme reaction to me;

Id welcome input from practitioners.

I noted that the info quoted (in the info from the link " cases are used to

illustrate how patients may reduce or stop their medication in appropriate and

selected cases. " ) -in other words, as always, the practitioner is a

facilitator, one who can open energetic doorways which a pt must chose to go

through or not..

thanks to all for the great, well, web woven here!

Anna
