Guest guest
I have a patient with brown pigmentation on the maxillary region and the bridge of the nose. It came on five years ago after the birth of her second child and was exacerbated when she was carrying her third child two years ago. It's been getting worse ever since. Does anybody have any success in treating this? Zach

Guest guest
If we note something strange, we should not defer or ignore it. I think it is our best bet is requesting her to see her own family doctor first. Maybe her MD will refer her to a special test or a dermatologist. Be sure to have this note in your treatment procedure " refer to her own family immediately , dated " . If some colors apprear on the skin and appear or spread quickly, this is the best way to save our soul. WE ARE NOT HERE TO MAKE A GUESS. I'd seen a similar case, my patient suddenly had dark skin spots suddenly occured on her body and spreaded rapidly. I recorded it in my treatment file and noted that she must she her family doctor immediately. I insisted her to see her family doctor ASAP. Her doctor checked out by visual inspection and bewildered. He referred her to a specialist " Dermatologist " . There will be no shame if we do not know. But there is a shame if we do not know when to refer her to. I am sorry that this statement may hurt somebody's ego. I do not mean so. I just want us to be safe. Guest guest
The famous clinical sign for lupus is a well-defined red butterfly shaped inflammation on the cheeks, above the maxillary sinuses, or for us CMers, between St 3 and St 2. But because lupus is a serious yin and spleen deficiency presentation, usually, it can be characterised by a number of things such as fatigue, arthritis, fever, seizures, muscle weakness, memory loss, photosensitivity and a rash across the face. Again, because for us, it can be a yin / spleen deficiency, it is called, in western medicine, the disease with a thousand faces. I think CM practitioners will be clear on why that is. Guest guest
lupus has a reddish inflammatory response in this location so it is not this. when women become pregnant their bodies go through all sorts of changes and one of the classic signs of hormonal changes is that she will sometimes develop a brown pigmentation on various locations. When I am faced with a condition that is unusual or I haven't see before, I look for underlying conditions that present themselves along with the appearance of such things as brown pigmentation on bridle of nose etc to come up with diagnosis. The diagnosis may change as you treat due to changes in the and on the body, so be aware of this. Treat presenting diagnosis with acu along with local topical herbs. for acu treatment you may want to have a look at her immune system and see if it is overactive, but I would also look toward liver. see what you find and go from there. hope this helps, melanie Shape in your own image. Guest guest
i've not seen or tx it, but here's my thoughts, based on tcm dermatology: brown macules and other legions tend to signify liv xue stag in tcm derm. being as preg causes a wood-earth disharm, this seems like a plausible pattern for her condition, if the other s/s are there. kb On 8/16/07, Adam Schreiber <schreib wrote: > > I haven't treated it, but it is most likely what is known as chloasma > or pregnancy mask. Guest guest
She sounds like a Sepia Woman. Named thus for the sepia or " yellow saddle across the upper part of the cheeks and nose; a " tell tale face " of uterine ailments. " Its one of the most famous homeopathic personalities. Its out of my scope so I'd refer you both to a homeopath, and in the meantime you can check out the remedy in a homeopathic Materia Medica. Look up Sepia i.e. cuttlefish ink. You'll see a lot of GYN signs and symptoms, along with bearing down sensation, moodiness, apathy, etc. Best, Amy ______________________________\ ____ Shape in your own image. Guest guest
The patient did see an MD and she seemed unconcerned, referring to it as a " pregnancy mask " , Lupus was my first reaction as well. The patient does present with spleen qi xu with damp accumulation. She has a history of drug abuse so has likely taxed her Kidney's and Liver as well. Years ago her gall bladder was removed and later developed pancreatitis. After that she ballooned up and it was arounnd that time when thhe rash first appeared.
