Guest guest
Back in ? March of 07, I posted #23825. Patient with numerous complaints including head and neck pain, hot flashes, numerous UTIs, anxiety, depression and then most recently, a prolonged cough from a wind-heat attack. She has since had lung surgery following the x-rays and CAT scans that revealed spots on her lungs. The post surgery testing indicated that she had Valley Fever (used to live in Arizona, now back in WI). She had been recovering well from surgery, energy back, headaches less, no UTIs. Had some residual hot flashes, which had been previously controlled with acupuncture. She had some difficulty getting a deep breath. A follow up CAT scan indicated the fungus they removed had come back. She is now on strong antibiotics. The hot flashes are much worse. The antibiotics also cannot be taken with Buspar, so her anxiety and feelings of stress are off the charts. Prior to the antibiotics, she said that following my last treatment, she had more hot flashes on the way home and they have been way worse than before. (releasing heat with the treatments?). Her tongue is pale purple, swollen with teethmarks, a large " divet " near the front, center. Her pulses are thready, weak, esp. at KD and Sp positions. She is very petit and has lost a lot of weight through all this...she is not concerned about the weight loss. I just wanted to stress that she is not robust. So she is spleen qi and blood deficient, Kidney yin and yang deficient with damp. I have her on Jia Wei Xiao Yao Wan to clear the deficiency heat and nourish her blood. For points, I have been using: SP6,9, 10 LV3 ST36 LU7/KD6 KD7 CV6 This was before the new information about the fungus still being present. I suspect the damp heat is contributing to the hot flashes. Any thoughts? I will see her on Saturday. I treat her 1 x per week because that is all she can get to the office. Thanks for taking the time to look this over and give it some thought. Guest guest
You could needle bl 62 (at the red/white skin line) in cun deep to clear the fire. Kidney 3(1 cun deep) would be good, ren 3/4(needle tip touching the peritonium) instead of rn6. I would skip the kd6 lu7 but lu7 can't hurt, you could add si 3 to close the yang qiao circut. You could 1st needle gb20 and some neck points in that postition for 20 minutes then flip her over and do the other points. GB20 will help with the blazing fire. If you are not concerned with moxza with this much heat you could moxa lung shu also to help with the infection. I think a tonic like zhi bai di huang wan at a higher dose than indicated on the bottle would be a better choice than jia wei...Are you concerned with using yin tonics with her phlegm condition? Dong chong xia ciao is a good lung and qi tonic that enriches yin, treats phlegm, its also good for very weak people with blood def. conditions- you can get a high quality (cold grown so its as strong as the wild expensive type)one from alohamedicinals.com or I have some for sale if you need a small amount.
