Hi Kristina,

do you know where in Europe you would like to practice? The European Union

alone (which does not cover the whole of Europe) has 27 member countries,

all of which have their individual law structures.

The Thieme almanac had some information on this topic http://www.thieme

de/detailseiten/9783131426116.html

Best,

Tom.

Hi Kristina,

I believe Spain, France and Italy only let MD's practice acupuncture,

although there are " rogue " practitioners in those countries. Belgium

requires a paramedical or medical diploma plus an acupuncture diploma, and I

believe the situation is the same in the Netherlands.

If you would like to come to Belgium I might be of assistance when you would

like to apply for a license.

Do you speak Dutch (Flanders and the Netherlands) and/ or French (Wallone)?

I believe it would be a prerequisite in order to have a succesful practice.

Best,

Tom.

Hi Tom,

Thank you for your email message. My idea to practice acupuncture in Europe

is just getting started. If I do decide to move to Europe, it wouldn't be for

several years. First, I want to travel to France, Italy, Spain, Belgium and

Holland. If I really like one of those countries, then I plan to start studying

the language. Right now, I am researching to find out information on what it is

like to practice in Europe...and what it is like for Americans to live in

Europe.

When I do travel to Europe, I would love to keep in touch with you and

possibly come see your practice in Belgium.

Thanks again for your reply.

Take care!

Germany requires a kind of naturopathic license. Getting immigration and work

papers in Europe is not easy, and you definitely need to become fluent in the

language.

Hi Angela!

Thanks for your message!

I do have dual citizenship. My mother is from Estonia, and last year I got my

Estonian passport. So, living and working in Europe is possible for me. It is

true that I do need to become fluent in the language of the country where I

decide to move to.

How do you get a naturopathic license in Germany?

Naturopathic license in Germany is called heilpraktiker. You would have to

prove your credit hours to one of the schools or bodies that arrange for

licenses. Perhaps there are Germans on the list that can clarify this?

Kristina: if you ever come to Belgium, it would be my honour to welcome you

as my guest. Let's have tea and exchange ideas!

Best,

Tom.

Hi Tom,

Thank you for the information. And thank you very much for your invitation to

visit you when I travel to Belgium (hopefully in the next year or two). I would

love to have tea with you and exchange ideas. I will keep in touch and let you

know my travel plans, once they materialize.

Take care!
