Guest guest
Dear all friends, I have had simplified our TCM theory years ago and applied it. It works well. But it needs some more works and some more wisdom to develop further, instead of ending right here. However, I need to share my approach to all of you - us, so we may focus on it and develop more and more as people do in western medicine. Our future probably will have a great expansion and extension and be brighter. So please help me here, all of you!!!!! Our TCM theory emphasizes on Yin and Yang, Qi and blood, Heat and cold, exterior and interior, acute and chronic. They are very complicate to me and to some. This is why we can not master our field. I unified them all in one word : Qi ( energy, life, life source, heat, expansion, moving, growing, transform, transport, breaking, destroying, condensing ... ) NOW LET SEE SOME EXAMPLES, we will base on these models and develop further if we wish, but be sure to make them as simple as possible. PAIN ( Qi stagnation, slow moving, or stop ) do not think about blood stagnation, phlegm or injuries, but Qi... Qi slows down, get stuck -obstructed , or too weak to move... Rx : Remove and regulate obstruction if obstructed, strenghten if Qi is too weak... Phlegm are cause by Qi weakness or obstruction. PHLEGM -again , from Qi stagnation, weakness, unable to transform SWOLEN ( Qi and blood stagnation , but Qi is the main factor. Do think about Qi first -use Qi to destroying obstruction or transfer the obstruction into different forms- softer, smaller, or melting ... ) EDEMA - fluid accumulation ( Qi weakness or some obstruction which is unable to transform food or Gu Qi or body fluid then edema forms ) DAMP ( same as phlegm , swollen, edema ............ ) TO ME : EVERYTHING HAPPENS GOOD OR BAD IS FROM QI. Yin and yang in universe means nothing to me if our body can not utilize them. Ex : If you are dying and you are to inject, drink or eat some Yang ( energy, life-giving ) foods but still dying, it does not mean anything to you. The most important thing to me is our energy inside our body. Is it strong enough to transform Yin into Yin or Yang into Yang for our ( life ) needs. If it does, it counts. So when we are sick, ill, or terminally ill, my question is : Can we absorb any energy ( live giving support ) to save our life ? How can we absorb them ? Is that because we still have our breath to receive energy ? The energy which is very very weak, but somehow is still able receive and transform any giving energy outside of our body into our fuel -living energy which our life will hold on. If terminal illness can be treated, we should have confident in pain, edema, highblood pressure ( accumulation of cholesterol, fats, calcium or something obstructed the vessels ... too much pressure- energy? ), overweight ( accumulation , Qi not transform food into fuel ), infection ( Qi not strong enough to defend invaders ... ).... should we ????????????? Why should every one look for heat, cold , interior, exterior , deficiency or excess at this point ? We know that if our energy is weak --> tired, listless, fatigue... If obstruction --> pain and other accumulation... If we are dying, we know our enery is not refueling or it is giving up of receiving or transforming. REMEMBER OUR QI ....... QI , QI , QI. This is what counts, not other. But we should understand Yin and yang , Qi and Blood thoroughly. They won't hurt , but will help us more if we know more. IF WE UNDERSTAND QI, THERE SHOULD BE NO PROBLEM TO LEARN YOUR PULSES................... LET 'S SEE IT in an example, and please help me , friends !!!!!! PULSE is deep , middle or floating ... Why it is deep ? because my Qi senses something wrong deep inside ( interior prob ? ) Why it is in the middle ? My Qi senses something in the blood, muscles, tendons, something in the middle ( Qi and blood prob? ) Why it is floating ? My Qi is sensing something out side,it goes up and looks for something or try to defend for my body ( exterior pro ? ) Why slippery - because no obstruction. Why hesistate - because it can not move smoothly, there must be obstruction, weak qi ( not strong enough to move -- hesistation too. body fluid or blood is too thick or too lillte --> not moving smoothly then it will cause hesitation too. .. ) IF WE ALL GET THE PICTURE AS THE ABOVE SAMPLES I THINK WE WILL ENJOY OUR THEORY AND WE CAN BE SOME SCIENTISTS SOMEDAY !!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK, everybody !!!!!!!! PLEASE HELP ME IF I AM WRONG. I AM HERE TO SHARE AND TO LEARN WITH ALL OF YOU. Guest guest
Nam, What do you define as Qi? Guest guest
Dear Dr. Rosenberg, What I define Qi ? Based on TCM , QI is the energy, heat, life-force, a living-force within our body. Qi is a living force which helps us to transform things such as food and air and manifests in our physical body and motion ( chemical or and electrical energy ) If Qi stagnates somewhere in the body, that part or related parts will have some problems. Qi is also called energy. Energy means heat, life-force. If our life-force is weak our motion are weak, sluggish , dull or at rest. We use to have problems with internal heat. What I think is that because our Qi is not moving, and Qi is heat. This heat is accumulated then turns into excess heat. I am always wondering about the Exterior or Wind Cold invading the body and it turns into heat, or phlegm turned into heat or blood stagnation turned into heat!!!!!!!!! I do not see these. But What I see in my mind : Cold can not be converted into heat by itself, neither heat is transformed into cold. I can not imagine these pictures... Only our Qi ( energy ) is able to transform them or not. If not, our energy is not strong enough! What I see is : when exterior cold invades the body, our Qi within the body can sense something wrong at the upper layer " invaders " and it dispatches our energy there to find out or to defend for our body. This energy is heat, the more cold invaded more heat will send out to consume the cold. It does not make sense to me that the cold will automatically turn into heat. If our body does not have enough energy to consume the cold, the cold will get further and deeper into our body and causes more trouble, deeply........ So , it is still our Qi did not take care of the problem......... I think we should always strengthen our energy even though we have to sedate Yin or heat, clear phlegm or damp, remove obstruction or stagnation or ... WHAT KIND OF QI : As I had mentioned sometimes ago. I Classified them into 5 elements so we will never forget them. From there we can add more into one element if we think of, so we can enhance or improve our theory. HERE THEY ARE : QI of moving, smoothing ( Wood-liver ), heating, warming, expanding , destroying ( Fire-heart ) , nourishing, moistening, harmonizing, distributing, holding ( Earth-Spleen ), defending, drying, protecting ( Metal-Lung ) , Cooling, cold, condensing, consolidating, sinking, shrinking ( Water-Kidney )... But in Science we look at a different angle : Qi ( energy ) in chemical, light , radiation , heat-cold , waves , sound , sight , magnetic , gravity , electricity , air , water . I used sound therapy to treat patients...... VERY EFFECTIVE ! We use heat , light, cold ice , tastes and energy foods and probably all of the above. I AM OFFERING MY VIEW THAT ANYTHING IS QI RELATED. If we understand Qi thoroughly, concentrate in this. It could open more doors to us. Look at the modern medicine, they treat their patients using one or more of the Qi above " the science Qi " , don't they ? My English is so limit which I can not express more deeply as all of you all, but I tried. GOOD LUCK !!! Chinese Medicine , " " <zrosenbe wrote: > > Nam, > What do you define as Qi? > > > On Aug 5, 2007, at 10:15 AM, dr_namnguyen58 wrote: > > > > > TO ME : EVERYTHING HAPPENS GOOD OR BAD IS FROM QI. > > > Chair, Department of Herbal Medicine > Pacific College of Oriental Medicine > San Diego, Ca. 92122
Guest guest
Dear Dr. Alon Marcus, We apply our treatments based on Qi alone. Eventhough we are using herbs or acupuncture, we should not get our sight out of Qi. If there is stagnation, phlegm, heat, cold, dampness, dryness or combination of all, I strongly suggested focusing on Qi. This will help us tremendously.... HOW DO WE GET QI AND HOW WE USE THEM ??? Qi ( energy, life-force ) is giving us by nature, is everywhere. They are foods and air. HOW TO ACQUIRE THEM ? Depend on our diagnosis ! What do we need ? What do we want to get rid of so our body can function properly ? ACUPUNCTURE regulates Qi and enhances Qi. This methods can treat and cure a lot of disease... Oh! By the way, my daughter is free of stuffy nose after 1 treatment. This encourages everybody. ACUPUNCTURE is not used to tonify Yin nor Yang, but it is to regulate our body energy. If our energy is strong enough and works properly , it can receive ( absorb ) proper energy foods and transform them into whatever we call it " Yin or Yang, cold or heat, dryness or moisture ... " IN THIS CASE WE TONIFY YIN OR YANG INDIRECTLY. Please correct me if I am wrong. I am learning just as you all. HERBS ARE TRUE SUPPLEMENTS for us to strengthen our body, but it is no used if our energy is unable to absorb them nor transform them into useful energy, the needed energy. ARE THESE HELPFUL ??? Thanks for spending time to view these things with me. I am still learning , guys ! GOOD LUCK !!! Guest guest
Does anyone know of a good description of Qi published or unpublished in the English language? I'm not sure if " energy " captures this concept completely. If we're going to base our entire diagnosis and treatment protocols based on Qi, we should have sharper metaphors to be able to understand this phenomenon. Nam, thanks for bringing up this issue, which is fundamental to our practices. On 8/5/07, Nam Nguyen <dr_namnguyen58 wrote: > > Dear Dr. Alon Marcus, > > We apply our treatments based on Qi alone. Guest guest
Dear John, I suggest you look again carefully into the Yin and Yang in our Acupuncture book, and probably look deeper into Qi. This may help you and may help us. Qi is the life-force. Qi is everywhere. In our body, if there is no Qi, there is no life there. I May think the best book will talk about Qi is Qi-cong or Tai Chi Chuan. They are methods of regulating or manipulating Qi, I guess, I 've never read them, but I know for sure about this. I hope somebody will give you the good answer. Nam Nguyen, GOOD LUCK ! Guest guest
I personally don't think over-simplifying Chinese medical theory is of any value. The criteria of qi, blood fluids, six channels, five phases, four aspects are all important at the right time. I'm sorry, I don't think there is any way out of devoting a lot of time and effort to studying Chinese medicine in order to understand it well. Studying just begins when graduating a TCM college, there is a tremendous amount of material to grasp over a lifetime. Medicine is a very complex undertaking. Why should we sell ourselves short by just concentrating on protocols or techniques? Understanding the principles of medicine allows one to be not only effective, but creative as well in one's practice. It is a lot more than just borrowing a technique without fully understanding the principle behind it. Guest guest
Nam You are kind of stating the obvious, i am looking for actual example of the use of this simplified thinking - Nam Nguyen Chinese Medicine Sunday, August 05, 2007 5:47 PM Re: FOCUSING POINT " NEW APPROACH " Dear Dr. Guest guest
DEAR DR. ROSENBERG, This is just a nother view of focusing, not selling anything. We are not selling anything to make ourselves look short. TCM had developed over thousands of years and stopped expanding for more than hundred or even thousand of years. Do we need new ideas to expand or to improve ? should we stand in one place and claim that we are better than any other medicine -new medicine ??? I think life is complicate and also medicine! Not only medicine is complex, but everything, every subject is complicate and more complicate. If there is a thing we want, we could find the answer it is our complicated thing. When we have the answer, we say , it is so simple... Ex : mathematics is no subject for one, for he hates it. It is so complicate for him even to do the simple algebra. But it is nothing for you if you are an engineer, a mathematician. LET'S LOOK AT THE BEGINING : In science , everything has a mass ( a body structure ) which can be cut into smaller pieces, smaller and smaller " molecule " . This molecule can be cut into a smallest thing which can not be cut any more, we call it " atom . An atom , can not be cut in any method, contains elements. There are 112 known elements at this time. Each element is a substance or chemical, contains electrons , protons and neutron. Electrons ( negative charge, energy ) , Protons ( positive charge, energy ) neutrons ( no charge, energy ). These elements are so small , invisible within our sight. These elements can be chemically or energically divided further " simply cut down further " into 10,000,000 to 100,000,000 smaller pieces, we call quantum physics, from Dr. Deepak Chopra M.D " Ageless Body, Timeless Mind " . This is a very interesting book. I bring this up because everything is cutting down, cutting down .... It is from energy. The energy form, eventhough it is an element, a very big mass compare to quantum physics. Our body, our life is from energy. Our Acupuncturee books and and our medicine book said so. It is the energy of our parents, we call jing, Blood, Qi in the visible forms. I THINK I SHOULD STOP RIGHT HERE ! Because if I am wrong from the begining, I will destroy my view or bring up an argument. Please, forgive me if I am trying to make a fool out of myself or ourselves. WHAT I've done. I SIMPLY THE DIAGNOSIS so I can see it better and I render very effective treatments. I need somebody to go side by side with me to help me to improve TCM theory or to improve our treatments. BUT IF WE ONLY THINK IT IS COMPLICATE, HOW CAN WE IMPROVE IT? SHOULD WE LOOK AT OTHER ANGLES, BUT NOT AWAY FROM IT? Nam Nguyen P.S I appreciate your view. Because of your view I need to study more and look for more help. Chinese Medicine , " " <zrosenbe wrote: > > I personally don't think over-simplifying Chinese medical theory is > of any value. Guest guest
Hi Alon, Please allow me to call you as Alon. Let's look at an example here and please do not quote that I can treat all diseases or illnesses because I can't. I still need some help. But so far , I have been much in luck. A male patient, age 68, had severe asthma for 18 years. He is very skinny, strong , healthy , easily getting tired, asthma worse with cold climate, especially when he biked in the mountain -dusty. His breath was shallow inhalation, fine with exhalation. He often had tension headache- very tense, in temporal , GB channel. PULSES : full slippery rapid, pale face, thick yellow coat and wet. BASED ON TCM , I concluded : He was in excess condition mixing with deficiency, but the excess was more revealed. PULSES revealed excess damp-heat ( some TCM will call phlegm-heat, but there is difference between the two ) TONGUE : Thick coat ( excess ), yellow ( heat ) --> excess heat. PALE FACE, SKINNY, EASILY TIRED, age 68 = mostly deficiency. DUSTY = environment , dirty Qi. INHALE BAD = Kidney Qi deficiency... IF Exhale is bad = Lu Qi def. WORSE WITH COLD CLIMATE = Qi deficiency or Yang deficiency not able to cope with cold Qi or not able to transformed Cold Qi into warm Qi - usable Qi. I CONCLUDED THAT This was an excess damp-heat with Qi deficiency. I chose K6, regulated with force. He said she could breathe more deeply, I withdraw the needle, about 20 sec. I had something in mind. If this would not work, I would choose S36. However, I did not have that chance. I prescribed Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan , 30 pills / each, 2x/ day , for more income. Not only that, because I was afraid that this will come back. I gave him 3 bottles, 200 pills each, $30.00 each. He was delighted. The next few days he came back and said he discontinued the air supply for his asthma. WHAT I HAD DONE ??? not out of TCM sight, I regulated Kidney Qi, and strengthen it. DID I remove damp, phlegm or heat ? NO! NO ! I regulated the Qi, the phlegm , damp and heat whatever we called, disappeared by themselves.......... BINGO....... BINGO ... CAN YOU DO THE SAME ? I am sure you all can. GOOD LUCK !
