Guest guest
Dear friends and colleagues, I am in the midst of translating into English a wonderful little book on the use of the " Classical Formulas " of the Shang Han Lun and Jin Gui Yao Lue in modern practice. In it, Dr Huang pays a lot of attention to a patient's Constitution. Interestingly enough, it is not constitution as we have learned from the five phase perspective, but from the perspective of the herbs. For example, there is the " gui zhi " constitution, the " chai hu " constitution, the " ban xia " constitution. This perspective is not just interesting from an academical and historic point of view, but it is also vastly useful in the clinic. And it makes choosing formulas much easier as well. When I was in Nanjing this past spring working on the book with him, he mentioned that he would interested in having me bring some western practitioners to Nanjing to study with him directly for a couple for weeks. I'm always up for a trip to China, and I'm delighted to have an opportunity to share Dr Huang's work before the book comes out. So, this Oct I will be taking a small handful of practitioners to study with him, and to learn his particular methods for diagnosing and treating based on herbal patterns and constitution. If this sounds interesting to you, then visit http://www.classicformulas.com for more information. This is a great opportunity to deepen your knowledge of herbal medicine and to have an enjoyable trip to China as well! best regards Michael

Guest guest
Hi Michael, I've had this book for a few years now and have enjoyed it. Prof Huang Huang has some interesting ideas, and I've heard good things about him from people who know him. Good for you for translating it! My Chinese is good, but I'm a lousy translator- I have no patience for it and am never satisfied with the results of my work. Besides, I have no time for it these days anyway. Are you part of a translation team? You have a publisher already? Best wishes, Greg Greg A. Livingston, PhD(candidate), L.Ac.
