Hi,

I have a new patient that is going to come and see him next week. I haven't seen

him yet

so I will give a precise description of his signs and symptoms and pattern after

I see him

but I wanted to ask a few things to the group before this.

In terms of Western medicine, he suffered some damage to his carotide artery

(not by

accident, not sure what happened yet, only spoke to his mum), which deprived his

brain of

blood. As a results he has lost motor function on half of his body and his

speech is very

imperred (only says a few sounds). So he hasn't had a real stroke but the

results is similar.

When I was in China I saw a lot of Stroke patients being treated but they were

seen very

quickly. His damage happened about 18 months ago.

In your experience is it likely that I might get improvement such a long time

after it

happened?

One thing I saw done in China for stroke patients which speech damage was to

bleed the

sublingal veins. It had good results, but again was done within weeks of the

stroke. Has

anyone actually done this themselves?

Any other ideas would be really welcomed.

Thanks.

Hi All-

I remember a while back there was a group of acupuncturists specializing in and

having great success with patients who had strokes and other brain injuries.

They were somewhere north of the San Diego area in California, and are all

graduates of PCOM. Anyone remember who they are or where they are practicing?

They did a presentation at PCOM's annual symposium about their success rate

several years ago and would have good information for May. Alternatively, May,

you could call PCOM and ask them if they could tell you the name of the clinic,

or who did that presentation. PCOM's phone number is 800 729-0941.

For TCM patterns on stroke, see

http://www.chinesemedicinetimes.com/wiki/Cerebrovascular_Accident_-_Zhong_Fe

ng

I studied with a stroke specialist in Beijing. She used a lot of needles,

20-40. Body points and scalp points were selected, with electric stimulation

on scalp points, mainly the motor channel. She had great success with her

treatments. People could talk and walk again.

Hi May,

I have treated many stroke patients and still have some patients under my

treatment at this time, include a 13 years old girl.

One of my current patient is 60 years old lady who had her stroke 5 months ago

when the first time she saw me. I thought I couldn't help her much because the

duration of her stroke, but after 6 treatments, now she can walk again. I was

pessimistic at first because usually I gain the best result during the first

three months. Since your patient had his stroke 18 months ago, I would say it

takes a miracle.

If you can't heal him from the stroke, at least you could make him feel better

with acupuncture, like some sleep improvement, better " digestion " , etc.

Cheers,

Yandy
