Guest guest
Hi all, thank you to everyone that responded as a result of my email. I agree that something needed to be done about that original thread. Some people needed to hit the delete button, some people needed to " step up " as Anne said, and so on. I would like to reiterate my point: plurality and heterogeneity (as Hugo scrambles to bring this back to ). As good (or even excellent) CM practitioners we need to be very skilful, sensitive, as well as appropriate, in our actions. Very difficult. I would simply hope that anyone who did get a " reaction " from Pete looks at themselves and what buttons they had triggered in themselves - this only makes us bigger people, as we well know. And next time we are faced with someone with a lot of metal, as Anne said, we might be able to use some compassionate warmth to dull that blade (fire melts metal for those of you in 1st year)... as well as serving to keep our own blade from coming out. You can do this with needles too, you know. On the other side, we do need to set boundaries. This is an expression of a good and healthy Liver General, who I am guessing would be more like a nimble and wise tai chi grandma or grandpa than a brawler, or even a calm bouncer. I hope everyone knows that patients sometimes really do need to be fired - very dangerous situations can result from maintaining a relationship that has grown unhealthy or blocked. And at the same time, we cannot be firing every person that irritates us or causes us to feel uncomfortable. Again, a fine balance. A story from the Japanese tradition to finish my post off: A soldier named Nobushige came to Hakuin and asked " Is there really a paradise and a hell? " " Who are you? " inquired Hakuin. " I am a samurai. " " You? A samurai? " Hakuin spat, " What kind of lord would have you as his guard? You look like a beggar! " Nobushige became so angry that he put his hand on his sword reflexively. Hakuin continued - " So you have a sword, " he sneered, " that cheap piece of metal probably couldn't cut through grass! " As an enraged Nobushige began to draw his sword, Hakuin calmly uttered, " Here open the gates of hell. " At this point the samurai felt his anger transform to shame, and he withdrew, resheathed his sword and bowed, eyes lowered. " Here open the gates of paradise, " said Hakuin.
