Guest guest
Molds and fungi are part of the microbials Blue Poppy Herbs routinely test for (along with protozoans and bacteria). However, remember that Fu Ling and Zhu Ling are both fungi.
Guest guest
Hi All- I have a new patient who is coming to see me for chronic daily headaches after having fungal meningitis (subsequent to Valley Fever) in January of this year. Part of her medical therapy includes lifelong use of antifungal medication. While her doctors did not tell her she needs to be careful to avoid molds and fungi, I am concerned about the possibility of molds and/or fungi to exist within already-prepared herbal formulas. I imagine it would be easier for these to grow in tablets and capsules than in alcohol-preserved tinctures, but that's just my hunch. Does anyone know for sure? I have had patients who have received organ transplants who told me they need to avoid fruits and vegetables for the same reasons of possibly eating molds or fungi, and this question would be relevant to them as well. What is the best type of preparation of herbal formulas that would be most resistant to growing molds and fungi? Is there any way to ascertain that any formula is completely free of fungi and molds? And would it be wise not to prescribe any of our therapeutic mushrooms (fungi)? Thank you, Need a vacation? Get great deals to amazing places on Travel. Guest guest
First off, Bob, how do you test for molds, fungi, protozoans and bacteria -- I would imagine you resort to several tests. Now to play a bit of the devil's advocate with the devil of TCM pattern diagnosis himself, am I being over simplistic or downright naive to thing that if we follow TCM pattern diagnosis, we don't need to be testing for specific pathogens. If I were ever in one of your classes, that would be one of those questions I've always wanted to ask you. And by the way, I personally really appreciate the great contribution you have made to all of our learning and understanding of TCM and I use your books all the time.
