There is adebilitating condition called skeletal fluorosiscaused by the accumulation of fluoride in thebones, making them weak and brittle. The earliestsymptoms are mottled and brittle teeth, and DrLimeback said that in Canada they were spendingmore money treating dental fluorosis than treatingcavities. But hold on. At least putting this poisonin the water and toothpaste is keeping teethhealthy and preventing cavities, yes? Er... no.As Limeback points out, they have beenputting fluoride in the Toronto drinking water for36 years while Vancouver has never beenfluoridated. Get this: the population of Vancouverhas lower cavity rates than Toronto! He said thatcavity rates are low all across the industrialisedworld - including Europe, which is so far 98%fluoride free. This was due, he said, to improvedstandards of living, less refined sugar, regulardental check-ups, flossing and frequent brushing.There were now fewer than two cavities per child inCanada. He said that those who continue to promotefluoride are working with data that is 50 years oldand questionable at best. "The dentists haveabsolutely no training in toxicity," he said. "Yourwell-intentioned dentist is simply following 50years of misinformation from public health and thedental association. Me, too. Unfortunately, we werewrong."
