Guest guest
Hello everyone, I am a fairly new member of the group and was wondering if any of you have had any success with treating or at least diminishing chronic tinnitus. I have an older friend who is 63 who is suffering from high pitched whistling noises. He describes it as "frequency noises." This is a very healthy man who eats an organic diet and takes a few supplements. He doesn't have high blood pressure or any metal overload issues that I know of. He's tried Ginkgo Biloba without success. I think part of his problem was brought on by long-term ear plugs at night use and suggested Graphites. Any homeopathic remedies he could try? I searched through the archives but didn't find anything. Thank you in advance for any advice. Allison

Guest guest
Ginkgo Biloba works for some like a charm. My friend's mother has this problem and it keeps it under control. Put it into the google search engine and read all about it! Best of luck, Susan
Guest guest
I believe the correct speling is lipoflavonoids and they are just a combination of fatty acids and bioflavonoids.--- On Wed, 12/3/08, edefreedom1945 <edefreedom1945 wrote: edefreedom1945 <edefreedom1945 Re: Tinnitus/Ringing in Ears Date: Wednesday, December 3, 2008, 7:19 AM , bikerbillie@ ... wrote:>> > T"here was an article recently in our local paper about Vertigo and> tinnitus. Guest guest
Tinnitus is the occurrence of continuous buzzing, ringing or humming in the ear with no external stimulus or known cause. There are two ways of pronouncing the word: TIN-it-us or tin-EYE-tis. The most common pronunciation, using the ending syllable as though this were an "itis", is probably not the proper one but it has become the socially accepted one. The constancy of the ringing can be totally annoying and distracting or even maddening and depressing. After such diseases as Meniere's syndrome, infection, earwax buildup, tumor, stroke, aneurysm, hypertension, TMJ syndrome, thyroid or gallbladder problem, blockages in the eustachian canal, dysfunction of auditory nerves, anemia, trauma, heart valve problems, Paget's disease, and increased blood lipids or sedimentation rate are ruled out, your doctor will probably tell you to live with it or to use devices in the ear that produce different frequency but more acceptable noises to mask the tinnitus sounds.. After this you will be pretty much on your own to seek an acceptable solution to the problem. Other possible causes of tinnitus are drugs (very common - especially aspirin and other NSAIDs), hypoglycemia, heavy metal or chemical toxins, arteriosclerosis, allergies, aspartame sensitivity, noise trauma, pinched nerves, mineral deficiency, muscle tension, indigestion, stress, rheumatoid arthritis, alcohol consumption, smoking, and use of cotton swabs to clean the ear. You can work with your doctor to remove or change prescription drugs and you can stop recreational drugs including smoking, sugar, and alcohol. A hair analysis can detect heavy metal poisoning and chelation therapy can help clear arterial plaques. You can self-diagnose food allergies by checking your pulse before and after consuming foods (see Dr. Coca's pulse test) or your doctor can order an IgG4 blood test. Hydergine may also be prescribed by your doctor. You can also self-check thyroid problems by testing armpit temperature BEFORE arising (see Dr. Broda Barnes thyroid test for hypothyroid condition not noticed in blood work). If body temperature is too low. check your iodine levels by painting a spot on a light part of your body with tincture of iodine. If the spot disappears in less than 6 hours you need to supplement your diet with iodine in order to improve thyroid function. You can also take dietary measures and undertake comprehensive dietary supplementation programs planned by a nutritional expert. If you are depressed, a trial of tyrosine supplements may be undertaken. Various forms of body work listed below may be tried besides removing sources of loud sound from your life. BODYWORK Pull down and out on your earlobe and pull up and back on the upper ear to stretch and move the ear canal. Use earplugs whenever subjected to loud noise - avoid headphone use. CranioSacral massage, acupuncture, reflexology and chiropractic adjustments may also be helpful. See a dentist that can evaluate the TMJ joint in your jaw. This is essential if you hear cracking noises when chewing or moving your jaw. You can learn biofeedback methods, the Alexander technique or yoga. And you can practice alternate-nostril yogic breathing. One doctor has had good success in treating tinnitus with sound therapy. You can get more information about this by writing to Sound Therapy, PO Box E237, St. James NSW 2000, Australia. More information is also available from the American Tinnitus Association, PO Box 5, Portland, OR97207. Self-help measures can include earwax removal by use of ear candles (buy them at a healthfood store) or earwax removal kits available at pharmacies. Mullein oil, garlic oil, lobelia, angelica, or peppermint extract can be used as eardrops. These drops should be warmed but not hot and the ear may be rinsed with hydrogen peroxide, colloidal silver, or vinegar. If infection is a problem, the doctor may prescribe antibiotics. Antibiotic drugs promote yeast infection and precautionary eardrops as above or colloidal silver may be used as a preventative of further infection. DIET If you have blood sugar problems and the resultant fatigue, try a hypoglycemia diet. Your diet should be rich in dark-colored vegetables, pineapple, beets, sprouts, and whole grains. Drink plenty of water with lemon in it. Use no other oil except extra-virgin olive oil. Minimize saturated fats and eat plenty of deep‑sea, cold-water fish. Eliminate or minimize dairy products, alcohol, sugar, salt, caffeine, chocolate and low-fat processed foods. SUPPLEMENTS TO CONSIDER B12 - if deficient, get 1000 mcg per week by injection until 350 pg/ml is reached. Maintain by 5000 mcg sublingual methylcobalamin daily in a clean mouth and on an empty stomach. Choline – Ipriflavone – 200 mg per day – may increase density of ear bones to decrease extraneous sounds. Niacin - use 500 mg three times per day if the skin flushing is tolerable. If not, use the non-flush inositol hexanicotinate form or niacinamide Vitamin C - use 500 mg of ester-C with bioflavonoids twice daily. Increase dose if any infection including cold, sinusitis, or flu is suspected Vitamin A - 10000 IU per day. Increase to 50,000 IU for a short time if infection exists. Include 400 to 2000 IUof vitamin D daily or get some sun. Vitamin E - 400 IU mixed tocopherols with 200 mcg Selenium daily B-complex - 50 mg in a good multivitamin with 100 mg extra Niacin and B6 - twice daily EPA/DHA - three caps daily or one packet of Coromega daily for at least six weeks Glutamine, Methionine, and Cysteine (as NAC) - twice daily on empty stomach Grapeseed extract - twice daily Digestive Enzymes - BEFORE each meal and at bedtime Magnesium - multiple chelate form, 200 mg three times a day and at bedtime Manganese Calcium - multiple chelate form, 250 mg at bedtime. Melatonin - 0.5 to 6.0 mg daily Zinc – up to 600 mg per day of zinc for up to ten days only MSM - use 5 to 10 gms per day and use as eardrops Helpful HERBS - Bayberry, Black cohosh, Burdock, Dong quai, Goldenseal, Hawthorne leaf and flower, Echinacea, Ligustrum, Myrrh, Cayenne, Rehmanmia, Turmeric, Suma. If congested; Ephedra, Hyssop, Mullein, Thyme. If poor circulation: Ginkgo Biloba, Kudzu Root, Vinpocetine (Periwnnkle), Butcher's broom, Cayenne, Chamomile, Ginger, Turmeric, Yarrow, Yellow dock, Licorice root. HOMEOPATHICS - 9c, three pellets, three times a day - do not use with mint Chininum Sulphuricum Natrum Muriaticum Natrum Salicylicum CAUTION This summary is intended to used as a guide and is not intended for use without guidance of your physician or other credentialed health practitioner. nov06ad, tinnitus, copyright Tony's Tidbits, Stuart, FL34997 written by, A.J. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for your suggestions! Tony, I will forward this information to my friend to peruse. I think he's pretty much ruled out any underlying medical condition, as he is pretty healthy, but you never know. He's never had his metal levels checked. He doesn't have high blood pressure nor does he believe think he has an ear wax build up problem...but if it's pushed all the way down to his ear drum, he should rule that out as well, especially since he's a long-term earplug wearer at night. He doesn't take any OTC meds at all nor does he consume foods with any artificial ingredients, including aspartame. He is very conscientious about his health and what he puts into his body. He has already tried Ginkgo Biloba without success. He's now trying Black Cohosh. He has a couple of the listed homeopathic remedies on standby as well (is 9C better than 30C potency--which is what he has?), although I'm encouraging him to be seen by or have a phone consult with a classical homeopath so that he can be treated constitutionally. He gets sufficient minerals through his diet and through whole food supplementation, but again, there may be something he's missing (or maybe getting too much of). He also takes MMS. Thanks again for all your suggestions. Hopefully, my friend will find some relief soon.
