Parents must give their consent to allow their 9th grade child to go through the screening process. I know of one mother who is refusing to allow her son to take this test. Why would any parent deny their child an opportunity to get this screening which could possibly identify serious emotional issues? Jump for the original email and discuss.Dear Parent, HPHS will be conducting TeenScreen again this year for the ninth grade. TeenScreen is a health screening program developed by Columbia University to identify teens who may suffer from depression or other emotional issues and to help their parents connect teens in need with professional health resources in the community. Your student was given an information packet that describes the program in detail today during his/her English class.Please look for the information tonight and complete the permission form attached to the information provided to your student in English class. The Consent Form has a place for you to indicate whether you would, or would not, like for your child to participate. All must be returned to your child’s English teacher by this Friday, October 24.If, after reading the information, you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call Stacey Ruff, Student Assistance Counselor.Thank you,HPHS Counseling Department =====In accordance with Title 17 U.S.C. In addition it is just another way for big Pharm to sale more of their life/mind alt drugs to helpless children that are at the merci of uneducated parents. I applaud the mother that denied the screening. If you are a half way parent you can see if there is truly something wrong with your child. I mother should know her child much better then some genectic screening that most likly wants to find a problem to prove how well it is working. If you create a program designed to find a problem then that is what it will do. School is for educating/teaching not for this, if we truly want to help our children and their parents we should be TEACHING stress management. We need to bring PE and the arts back into the school system eliemnate all these stress inducing test and provide prevention vs an after thought of treatment.
