Can I take a probiotic (good bacteria) while I'm on the antibiotic, or should I wait until I finish them to take the probiotic? Thank you Dr. Mercola's Comments: There is a common confusion that one should wait until they are finished with the antibiotic to start the good bacteria. Even though the antibiotic is killing the good bacteria, that is exactly when you need it the most. So I would triple the dose, as it will tend to prevent the common diarrhea complication many have with the antibiotic. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/ archive/2000/01/09/when-to-take-good-bacteria.aspx
Guest guest
Probiotics MUST be taken when on probiotics. The best time to take them is in between doses of the antibiotic, before, during and after a meal. On the four days after the antibiotic is complete, take the probiotic before and after each meal of the day. After that take the probiotic when awaking and before going to sleep for 4 to 6 weeks. If an extended release antibiotic is used ( such as the Z-pak) use saccharomyces, three times daily for one month. After the month switch to a different probiotic using the 4-day loading dose and the 4 to 6 week maintenance dose as outlined above.--- On Fri, 10/24/08, rpautrey2 <rpautrey2 wrote: rpautrey2 <rpautrey2 When to Take Good Bacteria When On Antibiotics?
