Guest guest
Treating cholesterol is nonsense and a way to make money for a lot of people. It is like chasing a shadow. If just as many people die with cholesterol under 200 as over 200 then optimal cholesterol leve MUST be 200 for most people. 160 to 240 is okay. Above 240 there is more heart disease and below 160 there is more hormonal problems and cancer. However, as people age their cholesterol naturally increases by one point each year. So for those over 40, most likely acceptable levels are 200 plus your age. This is just generalized ststistical info but a WHO study of women over 65 shows this to be accurate unless the person has a heart defect, injury, or vascular surgery.--- On Fri, 9/19/08, josi_wibowo <josi_wibowo wrote: josi_wibowo <josi_wibowo Are You or Your Family Having High Cholesterol? Guest guest
I've been struggling with this one. I agree with the articles that have been posted about how cholesterol is needed by the body, and heard alot about the so-called cholesterol hoax. But mine is over 300 total. And I pay alot of attention to my diet, consume very low levels of cholesterol, have been mostly vegetarian most of my life, so it has to be something my liver is doing, possibly genetic, although I have no knowledge of what my now deceased parents cholesterol levels were, and they lived to a ripe old age, did not have heart disease that i knew of. I'm definately not willing to take statins. I'd be curious who these people are, Hugh. Where do they live and what is their lifestyle, diet, etc. Sunny , Hugh Ramsdell <hughman73 wrote: > > The longest lived peoples around the world have cholesterol levels near 400. > Hugh > > > > > Tony De Angelis <tntstuart > > Friday, September 19, 2008 12:42:14 PM > Re: Are You or Your Family Having High Cholesterol? > > > Treating cholesterol is nonsense and a way to make money for a lot of people. Guest guest
Dear Sunny, One of the healthiest women I have ever met was my last mother-in- law. Her cholesterol was 413. When she had blood work done, whatever Dr. was seeing her freaked out. Her son, my Ex, who was also a Dr. and a health nut, just ignored it. We all ate an organic vegetarian diet. My mother-in-law and I ran an Organic Bakery. She was in her late 70's and ran circles around me. I kept contact with her and she died at age 92 after a brief illness. My Ex, the Doc, said some people just have a higher cholesterol level. He thought it was probably an inherited trait. =================================================================== , " Sunny " <sunny wrote: > > I've been struggling with this one. Guest guest
I am inclined to think high cholesterol isn’t so much the ‘what you eat’ but ‘what you drink’. Cholesterol is a fat that helps keep our cells from dehydrating by sealing in what water is there. The more dehydrated the body’s cells are the more cholesterol is made to hopefully seal in more moisture and water. So I am inclined to believe it is how much plain water a body gets and how hydrated the body stays. Just my 2 cents. Guest guest
Thank you very much for sharing that, Dak. It's 'heartening' to hear stories like that. I've heard it said that eating fruits and veges high in antioxidents keeps the cholesterol from oxidizing and creating plaque in the arteries, if indeed it does contribute to that significantly. My Dr. tried to get me to take statins once and I stopped seeing him for a year after that. I really need to see a Dr into alternative medicine but the ones around here I can't afford. I do struggle with CFS which I've had for 30 years. I'm 63. I was raised vegetarian and eat the best most organic foods I can.
