Most of them follow blindly alongside the doctors, very few will look

clearly at the situation and even fewer will risk their jobs by doing

anything about it

The reason I posted the article was I was wondering what disasters we are to

prepare for? What vaccines they are hatching next? What disasters are

immediately on the horizon?

I think the general acute shortage of nurses in the US (and

elsewhere?) seems to be a symptom of the problem with allopathic care.

Nurses have to do the grunt work while required to know much medical

knowledge. It seems to be a somewhat thankless job without the

prestige of being a doctor. Since nurses are on the front lines of

health, they should see best how our current medical system fails many.

Any nurses out there to comment?

I am in a unique position to comment ~ although its more of relating my experience and my take on the US health care experience.. .and not really so much of a comment!I was an allopathic physician for over 20 years in India..on relocation to the US I found the current medical practice atmosphere very competitive even though based on the exact same treatment philosophy and principles. Much of the practice here is driven by the payment structure. In India many of my patients were cash paying patients but the services were very affordable.. Is it an ideal situation? yes and noIt keeps life simple, but the real poverty there makes it difficult for many also..Contrasting that sad situation with the one here.. often neither the docs nor any of the staff seem to be able to call the shots on how the practice is run ~ its all about reimbursement which is so far removed from what the healing profession should be about ~ while the

folks here could afford most of the basic care, the cost of delivering that care is so prohibitive! In many ways the healing team is too stuck on its labels, sp the MDs..when I was an Md I did everything from my patients, from setting up their IVs, changing their bandages, positions, linens whatever it was that needed to be done...our nurses did it too, but so did we....some very wonderful teachers taught us the need to serve our patients, and i know that because i strove to remember that I have really been able to enjoy my work.At its basic level healing occurs best in the absence of stress--> if its all about who gets paid and how much and by whom, and what if theres no insurance, yadda yadda..there is way too much fear and stress for any real healing to occurForgive me for sounding a bit too far removed from reality, but I think anyone who goes into the healing professions for the purpose of healing should start by being

content with a simpler lifestyle, in order to maintain the necessary level of empathy...why do docs need to make so much money..? Healing is not numbers game?!So now I have transitioned in to being a FNP(family nurse practitioner) , and am enjoying the ride..i make as much as any other NP, but not as much as I could being an MD, but thats totally OK...I am doing what I wanted to do, which is spending time with those who need to be healed...forget about being angry at the system...the system is broke...focus on enjoying the work you can do.I AGREE THAT NURSES HERE ARE AN EXCELLENT LOT...MOSTLY THE DOCS JUST SIGN OFF ON WHAT NURSES HAVE ALREADY DECIDED !!! TRUST ME HEALTH CARE ~ ATLEAST 90% IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE, ITS BASIC REPETITIVE AND CONSISTENT CARE, WHICH MANY NURSES ARE MORE THAN WELL PREPARED FOR.Right now I am working on providing low cost, cash based health care to a largely uninsured population. It is very useful and

very rewarding work. Nurses don have to be content with grunt work, trust me..!Zee--- On Thu, 9/11/08, Talmer Shockley <talmer (AT) grazoph (DOT) com> wrote:
