Guest guest Posted September 3, 2008 Report Share Posted September 3, 2008 After more than a dozen years on various group list servs, I've noticed any group simply cannot avoid an occasional volley of opinion-swapping on any topic that is of real concern. It's just purely human. The key is for members to notice when a polite discussion begins to drift into heated debate and back away until polite objectivity returns--and that if you are compelled to 'take someone to task' over their views, it is just courtesy to the rest of the group to do so privately. It's also worth noting that I don't remember I've ever hearing someone say, 'gee, you disproved my position so brilliantly that by golly, I see that you're absolutely right about that!"....
