Stevia is fine but had a strange licorice-type after taste. Saccharine is the safest of all the synthetics and you need very little of it - but it also may have a bad aftertaste to some. It does acidify the body also. The safest non-caloric sweetener is Xylitol. Aspartame is a toxic drug and splenda is a chlorinated hydrocarbon (an insecticide like DDT). Xylitol has benefits beyond sweetening - it gets bacteria to voluntarily leave ti kidneys and bladder and it feeds the probiotics in the gut.--- On Fri, 8/8/08, kerley983 <kerley983 wrote:

Well, you can get granulated glucose, which is the 'good' side of sugar. Glucose can be directly assimilated by the body, doesn't whack the liver so hard and it doesn't stimulate insulin production as table sugar does, which is a combination of fructose and glucose. Fructose in sugar is what causes the problems--also why you want to avoid products that have a lot of 'high fructose corn syrup' even if you aren't diabetic. So you look for high-glucose natural sweeteners. But as a diabetic, I'd say AFTER you get your body naturalized and stabilized. If you've ever gone on a low-carb diet, you notice that, after about the 3rd day on it, you no longer crave sweets. Many of us are addicted to sugar because of all the sugary, floury foods we consume. When you eliminate those from the diet, it's not long before you just don't want sugary anything, and an occasional piece of fruit starts to seem like candy. It's a matter of retraining your tastes. Your PC, mobile phone, and online services work together like never before. See how Windows® fits your life

I would encourage you to research both stevia and agave. Stevia is

actually nourishing to the pancreas and for that reason would be good

for a diabetic to use. Sweet Leaf Stevia Plus is a mixture of stevia

and inulin made by Wisdom Natural Brands and it has a zero glycemic

index. They also make stevia in many forms--tabs,liquids, flavored

liquids (chocolate raspberry is my favorite). Some of the other brands

of stevia on the market add maltodextrin to their product and when you

look at the warnings on the side of the box they say that stevia is

good for diabetics but maltodextrin is to be used on the advice of your

physician. Maltodextrin has a glycemic index of 137 while white sugar

is 142.If someone has used stevia and says it didn't help their sugar

levels it's always interesting to ask if they've used one with the

maltodextrin. They also make Sweet and Slender which is made from the

lohan fruit with fructose and has a low glycemic index.

Wisdom also makes Yerbamate Royale which has stevia in it. An

acquaintance of mine drinks this one throughout the day to keep her

blood sugar stable.

Hope this helps.

Saccharine in very high dosages were found to cause bladder cancer in

mice, but the amount humans consume never reach such a high

concentration. This news was enough to cause an alarm and other

artificial sweeteners came into the picture. The stevia I get here is

not good and is probably adulterated with aspartame, so I take

saccharine which according to a " seer " I follow, Egdar Cayce, was

considered better than cane sugar. Aspartame, Splenda are associated

with teir own set of problems.According to the same " seer " Maple

syrup,Beet Sugar, honey are better forms of sweetener than cane

sugar, golden syrup.St Dalfour Jams, from France are made with grape

juice and are certified by diabetic associations to be better than

other jams.
