Are you fond of cooking? Is kitchen your favourite place to spend your

leisure time? Cooking is fun, but when it comes to mince the onion

sometimes it really bother us. It hurts the eyes that our tear goes

out as if we are crying. Anyway, do you actually know why that happen

to us? Why do we cry when we are mincing the onion?

Here is the explanation. The skin cell of onion has 2 layers. One part

contains the allinases enzyme, and the other contains sulfide enzyme.

When we are mincing the onion, the cell brokes so both of the enzymes

go out and are splashed out to the air. The allinases enzyme

decomposites the sulfide enzyme to sulfonat acid. This acid is not

stable so that it metamorphs to amino sulfokside gas. This gas hits

the eyes and reacts with the liquid at retina and it produces soft

sulfur acid. This soft sulfur acid irritates the nerve at retina. The

irritation hurts our eyes so that tears come out as a response to

lessen pain
