This is

wonderful. Your tender loving care of a stray wounded hound is

commendable.

Best.

Hi Bryan, Valorie, Doc,

I don't remember if I've ever shared this

with you.

Around 1997 my son and I were driving

around the neighborhood and checking out yard sales.( A favorite thing

to do !)

Going down a road about 2 miles from

home we saw a beautiful basset hound wandering down the road... as they

so often do. I really love Bassets, and this one was in the road,

so I stopped and called him over.

He came over readily . I bent down to

pet him and noticed that he was pretty banged up. He had a # of recent

bite marks on him, and some swelling in various places. My hunch is

that a larger dog had attacked him and bitten him. In fleeing, it

looked as though he got in front of a car and got banged up by the

car...thus the various areas of swelling... not at the bite sites.

He had no collar, and no one in the area

knew where he was from, so I called him into the car and he readily got

in.

We took him home and I washed his bites

and put some neosporin on them.

A little while later, he asked to go

out, so I brought him onto the lawn. There he stooped and a lot of

blood came out of him when he was trying to move his bowels.

Oh crap I thought he has internal

bleeding from being hit by a car. I mixed up some shepherds purse...

perhaps a teaspoon full or so into a tea... after boiling it,and

cooling it, I offered it to him...no way Jose'. Next, I mixed it into

milk. He drank it readily.

In about another 30 minutes he went out

again and the blood flow was greatly reduced.

An hour or so later he went out again

and the blood flow had stopped completely. This little guy looked like

he might well make it. He had an amazingly happy spirit!

Some time later in the day he did his

Basset trick. I let him outside and he wandered off...and totally

disappeared. Hopefully staying away from the road and big dogs..

We really enjoyed this little guys

company, and were lucky to be able to help him.

I must say that the shepherds purse was

very impressive.
