Depression

Depression – Shades of Freud, but even the word itself sounds

scary. According to Oxford, the

first definition of the word is: severe

despondency (sadness) and dejection (gloominess), typically felt over a period

of time and accompanied by feelings of hopelessness and inadequacy. Oxford also included a Psych

definition where Depression is described as:

clinical depression – a condition of mental disturbance characterized by

such feelings to a greater degree than seems warranted by the external

circumstances, typically with lack of energy and difficulty in maintaining

concentration or interest in life.

As

is typical of Psychiatrists and Psychologists, they had to put a slight twist

on the word in order to forward their perverted agenda. As if the condition as defined in the

original definition wasn’t bad enough, they had to enter into this equation,

evaluation of whether or not one’s depressed feelings are actually

warranted. Sheesh!

Wellllllllll,

whenever I run into a problem with words, I like to go back to the root

derivation as these tend to simplify things, and sure enough this word is no

exception.

The

origin of “Depression” comes from:

late Middle English: from

the Latin depressio (n), from deprimere which means, “to press down”.

Now,

we’re gettin’ somewhere.

“Press

down” brings to mind two other very pertinent factors – “Suppression and Stress”.

As

is covered in my FREE CD lecture on “Naturopathy”, the basic “mental” common

denominator of all disease is “Stress” and in this instance, the word can be

used synonymously with the word “Suppression”. This is totally applicable in looking at this condition

called Depression, and even though it IS a

mental condition or

state of mind, it doesn’t HAVE to be a mental disorder or a “mental

disease”. Let’s face it, if a

loved one dies or is badly hurt, this can bring about these depressed feelings

of despondency. If a husband or

boyfriend decides to leave the relationship to wander off on the trail of some

tart, the feelings of dejection are very real and not “just in your mind” as

the Psychs would have us believe.

I knew a guy who lost 20 pounds in two weeks when his girlfriend cheated

on him and dumped him. These are

real life situations brought about by ourselves or others adding stress /

suppression to our lives. Is there

an herbal aid to assisting getting through these times of stress??? Sure there is. Lobelia is a great herb for this, but

it is still just a bandaid. Psych

drugs and alcohol on the other hand lock in the feelings making them permanent

and harder to handle.

The

solution is to move yourself over to gentle CAUSE over the stressful situation. Perhaps it’s time to give notice on

that stressful, toxic job where the boss is meaner than a junkyard dog. Now, might be the time to give an

ultimatum to the boyfriend in a toxic relationship who feels it is his duty to

spread the love with as many girls as he runs into, and the son who’s over 30

might just find the grass a little greener if he were to finally move out of

the house so that his parents could get on with their lives.

The

bottom line is that, wherever you find depression, you will also find the

feeling that nothing can be done about the situation. The key to handling it,

is to acknowledge to yourself that something CAN be done about it,

and that you’re going to find and DO that thing that resolves the problem

once and for all.

You

really CAN DO something about it.

You really can. Just look

for the solution, and you’ll find it if you truly wish to. The power to do so really does belong

to you.

Yours

in Knowledge, Health and Freedom,

Doc
