Bee pollen is removed from bee's legs as they return to the hive by means of a mesh hardware cloth. The pollen falls into a trap below where it is easily collected by the beekeeper. Pollen contains the richest source yet revealed of vitamins, minerals, proteins, amino acids, hormones, enzymes and fats. However, for those in poor state of health, invalids or elderly persons who need a total revitalization, from one to three tablespoons may be taken daily but start out with 1/2 teaspoon and work up gradually. Pollen may be taken daily as a food supplement for any period of time. It is considered best to take the pollen combined with honey or fruit juice on an empty stomach. The ideal time is thought to be before a meal, preferably breakfast, when the stomach is completely empty. It can equally well be taken before other meals during the day.
