Guest guest
Hi Robin. Yes the white Stevia stuff is what I'd call a powder form. I don't think you could stir the "leaf powder" into cold or hot tea unless you don't mind the particles. I've never tried it but think it would be unpleasant that way. I think to use the leaf - cut or powder - you would have to steep it with the tea and then strain it out. Otherwise you will have particles in the tea. Yes you can most definitely use Stevia in baking. There are Stevia cook books available. I have not purchased one or tried any recipes yet. I plan to in the not too distant future. Have you tried honey in baking? If a recipe calls for 1 cup of sugar, I use 1/2 cup of honey or less. We will be getting it in soon and then I can tell you what we will be charging. Please ask me again in a few weeks if you are still interested. I usually like to add it into tea, hot or cold….if it’s cold tea, do you just let the leaf float then? Isn’t the white stuff the “powder” form Of it anyway? They have boxes that have packets of white stevia, which is what I was referring to I’ve been using, plus they have the white stuff in another jar…is this the powder you are referring to? I will be using it for cooking probably eventually too. Can you use it in baking? Or what is best for a sugar for baking? I didn’t realize you guys sell it!! How much is it? Thank you!! Robin, if your health food store does not carry it in the bulk section, ask them to get some in. Request Organic - cut or whole if you want it for a tea and powder if you want to cook with it. If you are planning on ordering anything with us, you might want to consider getting it here. I'm going to order some in a week or so we'll have some soon. If you purchase it with other things, then you are not paying $8.00 additional just to ship one item. Let me know what happens and how you like the leaf. What are you putting it in? Yes this does explain it well! I think I’m going to try the leaf! I just hope my one and only health food store in town has it!! Lol Thank you so much! ~Robin Valorie Shillington [ValorieShillington] Wednesday, October 25, 2006 9:16 AMRobin LongCc: herbal remedies Subject: Re: Herbal Remedies - Sugar is Spooky !! Hi Robin. Thanks for asking. I personally don't like refined, white Stevia. I'd rather stick to the leaf = unprocessed. I find that the white granules do not dissolve easily in a hot herbal tea and for me it has an after taste (a bit bitter). This after taste has turned a number of people off of Stevia and I think this is a shame. It is such a good herb and I just prefer the most natural. Robin if you like the powder go ahead and use it. I just don't recommend it because I think the leaf has a much better taste for starters. In addition, I don't know how they make it white when the actual leaf is green. As far as the liquid, I notice the same after taste. The process used to make it? Again I don't know. It may be fine but since it takes research and believing what I'm told, I'd rather just have the leaf. Does this explain it? Any more questions let me know? Hi Valorie: I’ve been using the packets of Stevia and they taste good! Are they not good to use tho? What about using the liquid? ~Robin herbal remedies [herbal remedies ] On Behalf Of Valorie ShillingtonTuesday, October 24, 2006 1:02 PMCamille WhiteCc: herbal remedies Subject: Re: Herbal Remedies - Sugar is Spooky !! Hi Camille. I like Stevia leaves from the plant. They make a great herbal tea. My new favorite that I just tried last week is: diced Ginger Root, Orange Peel, crumbled, dried Stevia leaves and Lemon Grass. After letting the tea sit and steep for at least 15 minutes, I then strain it before drinking it. Really, really good. Do not purchase the processed white powder Stevia. It's ucky! You need to find dried leaf either cut or powdered. I think that honey is as good or better than Stevia. They are very close in my books as Stevia does lots of great things for the body and honey helps allergies and also has anti-biotic properties. Tomorrow I will post the benefits of Stevia on the Herbal Remedies list and you can decide which one to use. Maybe you will want to use both as I do. I think they are both excellent sweeteners!!
