Fresno Bee, September 21, 2006: "Critics' harsh comments prompted alarmed murmuring through the board-meeting audience."Is there an alarmed murmuring in your area? There should be!!!!!http://www.haloscan.com/comments/jenniferfresno/_local_story_12757410p_13452129c_html/#222856Responses to article, " Suicide-risk screening effort blasted"September 26, 2006Teenscreen and Signs of Suicide and all this Public Relations blather about a suicide epidemic is amazing to me. Yes suicides happen and every one breaks my heart but screening the whole population of children, even infants, around the country with leading questions and the stated "Front Line Treatment" for everything is drugs is just appalling. At the same time we have 5 fold increase in antipsychotics to name just one of these treatments. If schools taught the history of our Founding Fathers this kind of thing would not be tolerated and never would have gotten this far.Jim MooreSeptember 23, 2006Thank goodness for a very intelligent and sane doctor, Fresno physician Larry Scortt, who called TeenScreen " bogus".Many parents and educational staff have not seen the facts that uncovered the fraud concerning "mental disorders". But they should be educated. The various mental labels given children following "screening" for suicide risk or other disorders, have been discredited by respected doctors, and some psychiatrists who really care about using successful methods of helping with depression and other problems children have.No tests and no facts exist that show that the ridiculous labels used by screening programs such as, "Math Disorder", or various, "Language disorders", "Caffeine-Related Disorder", etc., are real mental disorders or illnesses. So, yes, TeenScreen and any other psychiatric screening is bogus. Even though TeenScreen tries to position itself away from diagnoses, labeling is done using the information from the answers the children gave for the questions asked. Then it has been found, 9 out of 10 chidlren then are sent to be prescribed with a psychiatric drug.Even if we did not have any alternative methods to help children and teens with their problems, the children with problems would be better off without the psychiatric drugs. Look at the FDA warnings against psychiatric drugs, warning e that some can CAUSE SUICIDES. Many incidents of violence have occured as a result of the children using these drugs, and many deaths. We do have successful alternative methods that help teens and children... They do help, and they do not kill. So why use a false method that has proven to be deadly?Mary CollinsSeptember 21, 2006Nice story but you forgot to mention that 100% of the Fresno kids on the Teen Screen program at Hoover school were found to have mental disorders. Don't you think 100% is absurd and someone benefits financially?Darlene Bright
