Guest guest
I've had some friends ask me to make some herbal formulas for them to have on hand that don't have alcohol, or at least not much. I have made horehound candy that they appreciated. will other herbs like lobelia, liquorice, wild cherry bark, etc. for coughs also work in candy? or is a syrup better? or is there a way to stablize any form of water extract to prevent spoilage? will a certain amount of honey do it? or 20% alcohol plus honey? or is glycerin a good alternative and what per cent? kids don't seem to like vinegar much and adults don't want to have much alcohol on their breath at work using an alcohol tincture. I heard of one person using olive oil to extract active ingredients and using something like peppermint oil to flavor it, then placing a few drops under the tongue. would an oil extract be strong enough? Guest guest
I have a book that may assist you...it seems to have a lot of info in it...as I am new to this, I have not tried much of it...but it seems to be regarded in a good light in the herbal commuity....and even to a newbie like me, it is written in layman's terms... The Herbal Medicine-Maker's Handbook: A Home Manual by James Green It cover's a variety of items, for instance: Infusions, Dectcionts, Tincturing by maceration & Percolation, Glycerin infusions, oil infusions, ointments, syrups, honeys, poultices...and MUCH more...it even gives some general herbs that work for each type of process....
