Guest guest
Last night my husband starting breaking out in itchy bumps and rash, and by tonight it's covering large sections all over his body (3-4" diameter) and his upper lip is swollen. What could this be? An allergy, pet related? We have 3 kittens that we've had for two months with no problem (and we've had cats before) and we have an old black lab. What can be taken/given to relieve this and/or relieve the itching? Thanks, Lori Mori
Guest guest
Hi Lori. I just had terrible hives, but unfortunately didn't get anything herbal to help. I went to an MD who gave me prednisone, zantac (!) and an antihistimine. I don't know anything in the herbal line, but if you find anything, could you let me know? Benadryl and claritin also help, but I don't know any non-traditional remedies. Cheryl
Guest guest
Actually, the DRUGS themselves are the " non-traditional " remedies...what we discuss here is quite traditional. Anyway, the first things I would recommend are #1) TONS of water (reverse osmosis or distilled is fine, but make sure you add the trace minerals back in!) To find out how MUCH water, take your husband's body weight in pounds, divide that in half, and the resulting number is the number of OUNCES he should drink DAILY at minimum. Now, if he is a smoker, drinker, prescription or OTC drug-taker, or salt-lover, he will need to drink even more than the minimum amount. His body is obviously reacting to something and the water will do 2 things--dilute and flush. Both are quite necessary. #2) I would also do large amounts of Vitamin C. VitC is a good anti-inflammatory that practically no one knows about. It's best taken in a capsule multivitamin, because it requires other nutrients in order to process more efficiently. It might be good, however, in ADDITION to the multivitamin, to supplement with even more VitC...I would say around 5,000 mg to start, more if he's bigger. He'll want to gradually increase his dosage of Vitamin C until his stool isn't solid, and then back down just a bit under that. Bromelain, available in supplement form or in natural form by way of pineapples (food sources are always recommended before supplements) will help with inflammation, as will also a probiotic digestive enzyme taken on an EMPTY stomach. (When there is no food present, the enzymes will go to work on inflammation and the bodies that produce it. Most enzymes on an empty stomach are harmless. Buy from a trusted source, such as at a local health food store.) Other avenues you may want to try: acupuncture (sometimes the meridians get screwy), electronic biofeedback (does WONDERS with inflammation but finding practitioners with the real-deal devices is difficult.) While these remedies work, it's essential to find the cause--that's the first priority in true holistic healing. You don't want to just cover up the symptom, you need to find the aggravator. Keep tabs on his entire daily intake, every chemical he comes in contact with, every place he goes (it could be toxic mold or some junk). Consider his occupation, his hobbies, his lifestyle. Consider allergy testing. Forget the meds, they cover up symptoms only. They often contain toxic heavy metals and other insane ingredients. You can do this! Good luck to you both. Guest guest
Oatmeal baths can be comforting, but for me only helped while I was IN the tub I haven't had hives since using essential oils, but my kids have and they say that the lavender and chamomile helps. If I don't have the oils, I throw in tea bags We also use the immucalm by Dr. Christopher's sometimes. The kids will also drink the chamomile tea. I have also had good success with using momma's salve, which has lavender, tea tree, and a few other great herbs in it. :)I know how miserable it can be to have hives, when my hormones switched over I broke out in hives almost constantly, it was AWFUL! Guest guest
Dear Cheryl, Hives are physical response from the physical and mental stimuli of too much radiation. You need to do a Total Body Cleanse with some Niacin Therapy to terminatedly handle this condition. Guest guest
i suddenly developed hives (uticaria, as they call it) during one emotional crisis, i hadnt cried so hard in so long, and the weather was really really hot (L.A. in July) to make matters worse. at that moment, i broke out in hives (on my face), and after that, every morning, i would have an 'episode', a quick outbreak, lasting about 20 mins. it would really only happen when the climate/temp changes and affects my skin. then i break out. the first outbreak was 8 yrs ago. i went to an allergist,a few months later (benydryl wasnt working) and after going through several prescriptions (clariton, etc etc), the ONLY meds that helped were Zantac and Zyrtec. take together. i have searched alone for herbal relief, but no such luck. the dr. said that the first 3 yrs would be the worst, then the hives should diminish in outbreaks/severity over the years. i have seen great improvements over the last year, but certainly could use some great advice as to which herbs would help. i have also found out that chocolate makes my hives worse.
