Guest guest
Hi All!This morning I went in search of everything I'll need to make my first homemade batch of TT. 3 stores later, I finally found horseradish, but all that was available was some in a jar. Its got vinegar and corn oil listed as part of the ingredients. I'm wondering, if I give it a rood rinsing will it suffice for the TT recipe? Thanks!Tina Get your email and more, right on the new .com
Guest guest
I love horseradish <smile>It has so many different medicinal properties. It is also hard to find (root wise). I'm going to think about growing it.
Guest guest
Do not use the store bought already prepared. If you can't get fresh than leave it out of your recipe, but make a small batch for the nonce. Ask your healthfood grocer to order it. He will. Guest guest
You can sure sell me some of it!! I cannot find any anywhere. You just clean the roots - that's the only part you use-- chop them up. Its best to use a food processor because the 'fumes' will take your breath away. Guest guest
I found my roots at www.burpee.com . Then I had a local nursery hunt for the plants, I got three from her and burpee sent me a package of 5 roots. All of which are doing quite well in a space behind the shed. They are two different varieties. One is the species and the other a burpee hybrid. The leaves are somewhat different but so far both are healthy vigorous growers. I do believe that growing is the only way you can be assured of a supply- not found the dried roots anywhere so far. If you want I can send you some when ready to harvest. zoe Monday, September 11, 2006, 7:33:56 PM, you wrote: > I love horseradish <smile>It has so many different medicinal properties. Guest guest
This is going off on a complete tangent, but there is a product called nitro horseradish. A piece the size of a grain of sand is like putting a pea size pice of wasabi in your mouth. How low will we go? Check out Messenger’s low PC-to-Phone call rates. Guest guest
You should make some Total Tonic Formula. And I would also pay you for organic horseradish if you are willing to sell. I love to eat that with a little lemon garlic and salt, it is good bread spread. If you like to sell some let me know I would buy organic horseradish. Guest guest
I am not really sure but I have done both. I usually just scrub it real good. Kinda funny thing happened which says a lot about hr - my brother in Mich. Gave me a whole bunch to bring home with me to start my own patch. I took extra care and planted it all perfectly. A few days later my dogs 3 small little dogs politely dug it all up and ate every bit of it. That is why I do not have any now. Guess they knew it was good for them. Guest guest
Wait, you mean the horseradish that I buy in the grocery story, I can plant it and make more?? Do I understand this, right. Can it be done in a huge deep pot? If not, what can I do to grow it organically - my grocer is asking an arm and a leg for the stuff. I'm renting and the owner is nuts. She's not too crazy that I have a dog, who stays outside and has dug only one hole in the ground. Lilly dug the hole only because we live across the street from the air force base and they were doing something one day that emitted this loud buzzing sound - she dug the hole to stick her head in because the sound hurt her ears - anyway the owner is not thrilled that there was a hole in the yard (even though I covered it back up, so that is why I'm asking about the pot. I don't want her having a fit because I put a hole in the yard. I have way too much stress in my life, and if I add anymore I'll have to take the whole darn bottle of nerve and sedative formula. Just kidding on the last part, I know that wouldn't do any good. What difference have you noticed with the horseradish as opposed to without the horseradish? Tammi U. Who can't help but think that only one hole in the yard in six weeks from an 8 month old lab is pretty darn good. > > Yes I swear by TT That is why I need HR so bad. Guest guest
Holy tamale! I've never had that much problem getting this herb. If you have a health food store near you, and they don't carry it, they WILL order it for you. All you have to do is ask the guy who does their ordering. Sometimes you have to get a little pushy, but they will get it in for you if you persist. This will also get them in the habit of ordering it and create a demand for organic farmers to start producing more of it.
