Immediately the ants began carrying off the grits so I had high hopes. Alas the next day I still had ants and now they are ignoring the stuff, Walking right over it in search of what I don't know. After a week I still had ants. So I guess my kind are either too smart or immune. Today I had to clean up that mess of grits...LOL Yesterday I received a goodly supply of foodgrade DE a little bit spilled on the counter. Today I have no ants !!!!!! Hooray!!! At that time I was not to involved in learning about natural ways to rid them. I used Belach, one day my mom had left a banana peel on the kitchen counter & we came home from church & the WHOLE counter was covered. We washed them down the sink & found the entery point & put bleach along the area. It worked beautifully!! somewhere I have a book on natural gardening that may have an answer.
