Guest guest
That's a very good question Sally. I know that both varieties turn deep jewel tone green when infused in oil. I have found that you MUST dry the plant to make a good oil extraction because of the super high water content. I am wondering if the ideal chemicals to be extracted are water soluble......I have not seen any studies on this aspect of it. Wonder if anyone else on this list has more information on this. Guest guest
Cute kid Veronica, I wish my son were that young again. Those were wonderful days. I am curious about the resulting oil you get when infusing the fresh plant. I have done that a couple of times but I always experience a lot of separation between the oil and plant juice and the color is dramatically different between fresh infusion and dried leaf. The color of the former is a weak green, the former, a deep and vibrant green. Any feedback or thoughts on this situation? Thanks, Mary Alana
Guest guest
Ooops! the latter is a deep, vibrant green(dried leaf)
Guest guest
Hmmmmmmmmm So does this mean that the dried Jewelweed will not work for poison ivy ?? Sally Opening this week !!!! Email me at appleswoodsandberries<appleswoodsandberries - Christa Maria<cmaria < > Friday, September 02, 2005 4:37 PM Jewelweed Sharon, It' s the juice inside the stem of the jewelweed that is the antidote to poison ivy. Take a glass jar and fill it with juicy stems that you give a twist to release their bounty and cover it with vinegar, let sit. It's that easy. I would not make a cream, for that could spread the PI, the vinegar is drying, best of all, it works !!!!!! You can also freeze stems to have some on hand. My friend Keewaydenoqua also made a light tea from it for people who have it systemically, but I do not know the proportions, she is not around to ask any more and overall jewelweed is not one of those herbs to be taken internally. One needs to know what one is doing with it... C-M
Guest guest
actually the leaves hold the key to the anti itching. If you take a leaf and rub it on yourself that stops the itching. I was out harvesting jewelweed and got bit by a mosquito. I simply took the leaves and rubbed them on my bite and the itching stopped.. I infuse the leaves along with the stems in water and in oil plus put the leaves in HP. If you find a big thick stalk of jewelweed you can cut that open and gut it out as well. It looks like the inside of a honey dew melon. Veronica Davidson http://www.veronicaslavishlathers.com http://www.friendswithms.com
Guest guest
I've never tried it dried. I infuse it as soon as I pick it. Veronica Davidson http://www.veronicaslavishlathers.com http://www.friendswithms.com

Guest guest
hmmmm, well I must be doing something wrong. I'll try again because I would much rather infuse with fresh herb than dried. Are you using a double boiler, direct heat or sun infusion? Each time I used the fresh herb I used the double boiler and I let it infuse on low for about 8 hours. I'll try again Sunday because I'll be in the neck of woods where it's growing in abundance. Thanks for sharing, MA
Guest guest
Hi Veronica: I finally got to see the jewelweed. Geez, what a haul and what a treasure to see that sweet little face peeking out at us. Thanks for posting it here. I sure am glad I got to finally see it. Something is wrong in the " settings " on my computer so I can't view any of the photos now. Don't know how to fix or set it so will have to call the computer guy. Darn ! Guest guest
Yeah he's a gem. He's sending all of the money he earned from selling jewelweed to the red cross to help with the hurricane relief. He also wants to do a lemonade stand to raise more money to help out. Guest guest
Sue - It is in bloom here in PA now. The easiest way to find something like that is to go to it's " habitat " and know what it looks like. Jewelweed likes moist areas near creeks and streams that are also shaded. Then, to get a real idea what it looks like, go to google...click on images... then put " jewelweed " in the browser and you'll get many, many pictures. Looking at lots of pictures can be very helpful - you may realize you walk past it every day. Guest guest
Hi Tina and thank you for your response. I live in CA near Los Angeles and I'm not even sure it grows in this area. I was kind of taking the easy way out and looking for a supplier to order it from. I am going to Google it though to get a good idea what it looks like. Dave, are you and Kaye able to find jewelweed in your area? Sue D. essentialherbal wrote: Sue - It is in bloom here in PA now.

Guest guest
it grows like crazy around here. As soon as I have a chance to get more,I'm going to start infusing some more. Made a jewel weed tea last year, froze it and already used most of it up making lotion. Paula .......... in Michigan I used to have super powers but my therapist took them away Thanks, Dave. Guest guest
It does work wonder with rashes. My husband was outside pruning and came in and had a rash completely all over his arm. I washed arm with Jewelweed soap, patted dry, sprayed jewelweed, let it dry and then put salve on it and let it stay on there. At night I used colloidal silver on the whole arm . In two days it was gone. Diane M
