Guest guest
The Californian School of Herbal Studies in the 1980's recommended these 30 herbs that they felt could be relied upon to supply an herbalist with pretty much any and all the herbal actions and uplifting virtues required to provide good health care in a home and community. I agree... blackberry, black cohosh, calendula, cayenne, chamomile (german), cleavers, comfrey, crampbark, dandelion, echinacel, elder, fennel, ginger, goldenseal, gumweed, hawthorn, marshmallow, mugwort, mullein, nettle, peppermint, pipsissewa, plantain, st. john's wort, scullcap, valerian, vitex, willow, yarrow and yellow dock. Guest guest
I've had this list since the 80's and to this date still have not used more than about 16 of those on the list, but my favorites, my old standby's didn't even make it to the list. Horehound, feverfew, yerba mansa, yerba santa and chaparral- then of course raspberry, alfalfa and red clover. In the old days, the Elders claimed they only needed 12 herbs - of course each one had their own opinion of which 12 particularly if they came from different areas. Osha root replaces echinacea in some regions, oregon grape root in the west- goldenseal in the east and so on. The point is that if you are familiar with the traits of the ones you do use, you can create any medicine you are likely to need. I tend to believe the old ways that if it doesn't grow within a certain radius of where you are then don't use it. There are exceptions, but mostly I try to follow that rule. zoe Friday, September 1, 2006, 12:48:24 PM, you wrote: > The Californian School of Herbal Studies in the 1980's recommended these 30 herbs that they felt could be relied upon to supply an herbalist with pretty much any and all the herbal actions and uplifting virtues required to provide good health care in a home and community.
