That is exactly what I WAS using prior to the Stevia. It is certainly a step better than refined sugar and for a while was the ONLY raw sugar available in our area, Now there are several brands, but the sugar in the raw has the preferred flavor- slight hint of sorghum - delicious on strawberries- BUT its still sugar. Stevia is my current preferred choice- tastes like sugar- is an herb that has many other redeeming qualities other than just being sweet and easy to grow. IF you MUST use sugar then I would highly recommend this one over any of the refined ones. There is also Sucanat which is dried cane juice granules if i remember correctly- that was my very first venture away from refined sugar, but for a long time was unavailable here. I just recently noticed it on the shelves again after a very long absence.
