the only way to be absolutely sure the dog doesn't get another tick is to not

allow it outside. If you don't keep treating the dogs area of the yard, the

ticks will keep coming and can be very dangerous to your pet and anyone who

comes into contact with the dog because of the diseases ticks are known to

transmit - Lyme disease is only one of them. Frontline is one of the best

products on the market. You could always get rid of all the grass and bushes in

your yard too, but a once a month treatment with Frontline is much cheaper,

safer, and easier.

I use herbs as much as possible but is one of the few OTC 'medications' we

insist on. We live in the country and it would be rather pointless to try to

treat our yard for ticks - too many critters wander thru here during the night -

coyotes, raccoon, opossums, deer, etc and bring their own ticks, flea, etc with

them.

Hi,

I mostly lurk, but I have a new problem and I was wondering if anyone

can help.

Our one year old dog has developed a tick problem. My initial

reaction was to call the vet and I gave her the tick collar and

frontline (I dont think I want to know what is in that). I figured if

the ticks were off her the problem would be gone. But I treated her

on Friday evening and yesterday I found 2 in the on the wall near her

crate, one on my son, and this morning there was one on my other son.

Friends keep telling me we have to bomb the yard and house. Aside

from not even knowing exactly what that means, I would really like to

take a more natural route if one is available.

On the other hand, I really have the heebie jeebies and find I am

scratching imaginary tick all the time.

Does anyone have any tried and true remedies?

Thanks,

Lizzie

I used the Frontline on Friday. My dog appears to be tick free right

now, but I am finding them on my children and in my house.

Is there anything else I can do?

Clearly I will be letting her outside...should I be doing something

(besides getting rid of all foliage) to the outside?

I too am delurking. I love this group. You are all so full of

wisdom!

We use frontline on our dog. I am " the anti-medicine " person, but

this is one that is worth it. My husband and oldest daughter have

been fighting lyme disease since July. It hasn't been fun. I live

in Connecticut and we do tick checks everyday. Ticks carry many

diseases.

Other than Frontline and the tick collar, is there anything I can do

to the yard? Or should do? We are still finding them on us, but

the dog seems to be tick free since Saturday. We had never seen a

tick on her until last week. And should we be doing something to

the house?

I really hoped the frontline and the collar would be all we needed

to do, but we are still finding them, so now I am getting concerned.

Thanks,

Lizzie

ticks live in tall grasses and bushes. Keeping the lawn mowed short will help

get rid of them. You could get some insecticide at any feed mill or garden

supply store but read the label to be certain that it's effective for ticks.

Ortho is good brand and I think they are the ones who make a powder called

Seven or Siven or something close to that.

  • 7 months later...

Hi everyone, I've been reading in the files online for a while and thought that I would finally introduce myself. My name is Willow, I live in Seattle WA. I work in social services. I am a low-carb (Protein Power) vegan. I started following Protein Power about 8 years ago to reverse diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, acid reflux and a few other things. Which it did very well and I never took Big Pharma's drugs, just changed my diet. I also lost approximately 80 pounds, so I also reversed obesity. Protein Power was much easier to follow as a vegetarian or vegan than Atkins.\ hugs, Willow Only when the last tree has diedAnd the last river has been poisonedAnd the last fish has been caughtWill we realizeWe cannot eat money.Cree Indian Expression
