Does anyone have any homemade recipes to keep snakes away from your

house other than mothballs??? I have a small lake out back behind my

house and someone reported a water moccassin out there yesterday. It

scared the beejeebies out of me. I hope someone killed it. I don't

want to get that close to it. Anything I can sprinkle from my side of

the fence to keep them away??

Hoping someone can help me!!!

Thanks,

Kim

Hi Kim, I couldnt resist answering this one! Just a few things to ponder: 1; For every snake you or someone else sees there are usually many more you dont! 2. If you dont see them doesnt mean they arent there. 3. The liklihood of a problem is extremely small even when your surrounded with snakes. 4. The ONLY deterent I know of ( I've tested many) is a strong electric fence which is set up so that a snake or other animal has to pass over or under in order to get in.This is not very practicle in most cases. Now a bit about quantifying all this.I live in Asia and in any given month either I or my house staff removes at least one snake from my garden or house. Most often the snakes are venomous ( Cobras, Vipers or Krait's) I am not alone as my neighbors often call me to come remove a snake they found under a pillow or a bed. usually these are small

Green Vipers or Cobras. Extremely few people, in a highly populated area, are ever bitten by these animals.Snakes including Moccassins are absolutely in more fear of you than you are of them! I have tested a theory I have had for years and it was right on the mark. I have intentionally allowed Rattlers, Cobras and Green Vipers to go on their way and didnt bother them if they were not in my house or very nearby. I took note or a photo closeup so I could recognize that animal again ( no two are alike) if I came across it. I have to date, never seen the same animal twice! If you have a snake fear thats really at the root of all this I would recommend snake aversion work on yourself. I do it all the time here in Bali on Tourists who come then are afraid to go enjoy the countryside because of snakes, spiders etc etc. There are very effective Holistic ways to elliminate these fears. To date I know of no Herbal remedies that i would put any

trust in. Indians( In India) will tell you that Neem works well to drive snakes from underneath houses but my bet is they would go on their own once they find humans there.Remember the snakes were there before you were and they know the place better than you do and do far more benefit than any harm! Killing one makes as much sense as spitting into the wind. Remove one and another fills that niche, believe me! Don in Balibeachlovers6751 <beachlovers6751 wrote: Does anyone

It may have been a harmless snake as there are some that look very

similar, unless you see inside the mouth (white) and the elliptical

eyes. Water moccassins (cottonmouth) also have a strong odor.

I found the best way to keep the snakes away is a dog. Terriors are

excellent snake dogs and I'm sure there are others. There are breeds

that love to hunt and are good at it.

I have read that snakes will not cross over rope(repells). Echinacea is a traditional treatment for poisnous bites. A stun gun or motor sparkplug shock applied to the bite for several short bursts is supposed to destroy/inactivate the venom.

Hi Paul, Rope of any kind is absolutely useless to repel a snake! I have tried it and proven it many times in live demos at schools and civic groups with live snakes and all types of ropes. Its an old wives tale! Snakes regularly crawl over spiney Cactus as well as other desert vegetation and are well adapted to do so. In a recent Viper bite to a Dachshund I utilized Echinacea as well as several other modalities and the dog did fine despite all the naysayers that were sure of its imminent death! It might have survived totally by itself one never knows and just has to fire both barrels with anything that supposedly works. I have witnessed the use of an activated boat motor sparkplug applied to an arm in order to alleviate an extremely deadly bite from a Amazonian viper. It was my first experience at that time and since then have had occasion to use the technique several times

more only with a stungun. It works on certain types of bites but not all.Neurotoxic bites such as from a Cobra are uneffected by the stungun approach. The medicos who produce extremely expensive antivenins will declare baldfacedly that these electonics do not work. One only has to review their feeble trials to see how they came to that conclusion! I would not hesitate to use a stungun of quality on any Viper, Rattler, Moccassin, Copperhead bite. The effects are almost instant on even the most deadly of venoms! I just wished I had more experience with herbal treatments. here in Asia many exist but I am unfamiliar with most and have no idea which ones do and dont?
