Guest guest
I had an IUD inserted a year ago because I grew to dislike hormones for the very reason most of you don't want foreign chemicals, toxins and additional hormones in your body. However, over past few months I've been feeling queasy about this foreign object in one of the most important regions of my body. Also, is it really this safe having copper in there? I mean, when copper gets ingested orally, you'll get health issues for the same reason mercury substances from cavity fillings will give you health issues. So, if the case is the same, wouldn't copper buildup in the cervix lead to an increase of un-needed bacteria down there, that are drawn to feed off the copper? Plus, ever since I got this thing, I just stopped feeling normal. When I overeat food, I can actually feel the IUD pressing againt the cervix and my stomach and thus leading to cramps. Maybe it's all just me and my thoughts wandering. If you have/had an IUD, list your experiences and thoughts about it. If you know why knowledge or statements saying it's not that great a thing to have, please state them. I'm actually a lil eager to get it taken out (but not looking forward to the pain I'll experience from it), but then I'd have no form of birth control but condoms (which I hate) and I guess I could try that wild yam thing I just read a bit about. 'Eh.
Guest guest
**i had an IUD for about 2 years. i got vaginitis for the first time with it...and got it more than once. (i have not had one since removal) my feeling was that i was getting pregnant and each period was aborting the baby. it was an emotional roller coaster to say the least. one of the things that bothered me the most, is when i asked the NP HOW it worked, i couldn't get a straight answer. they don't know? come on! my periods were very heavy and painful. i finally had it one day, and went to planned parenthood and told them to remove it. it's supposed to be removed around the time of your period and it wasn't for me, but i said TAKE THIS OUT OF ME NOW. that's my experience.*** If you have/had an IUD, > list your experiences and thoughts about it. Guest guest
I have had an IUD in for approx 7 years now...I have not personally had any problems with it at all....I will add here that my periods are much more painful and quite heavy...but from what I have been told, this is not a problem, it just goes along with having it in...I had it put in at my 6 week checkup after giving birth to my daughter...I am no longer in need of it, and want it out to decrease the painful and heavy periods, but since my insurance will not cover it, it will have to wait until I am able to pay out of pocket... I will add that I have the non-hormonal type, which is basically a small T that has copper wire wrapped around it with something like fishing line hanging from the bottom just a few inches out of the uterus...and as explained to me by the ob/gyn who was the dept head at the university hospital that put it in, it is the copper wire that actually deters pregnancy...copper is toxic to sperm...so this is how it works...I cannot believe the NP could not explain how it works!!! (well I can...but just...hmmm)...I actually find that ignorance quite ridiculous...amazing who is out there giving medical advice...I cannot honestly attest to how well it works over years since, as I stated, I am no longer in need of it... I am curious as to what your cost of removal at planned parenthood was?? Maybe something I need to look into...thanks!!!! Guest guest
Thanks for all your experiences you guys. I also have the copper version, especially since the main reason I went for this was to avoid the hormones. I think I have an idea how it works though, so I never bothered asking about that. I got mine through my regular community doctor, who applied for me for some insurance. I wasn't aware we'd have to pay to get it out. I mean, it never occured to me. If I want to have a child or get it out before my 9 years is up, and they won't pay for it, that will be ridiculous. And with that said, I guess I should mention I got mine in while I was 20 and never had a child. They said we can still get them if we haven't had a child, it's just more painful having it put in, so I went for it anyway and survived the gruelling 5 minutes (I didn't want to take any drugs to minimize pain) and almost passed out. Ha. Such a memory. Anyway... ya... if you have to pay, it can't be THAT much...can it? herbal remedies , " Georgia Lundie " <gklundie wrote: > > I have had an IUD in for approx 7 years now...I have not personally had any > problems with it at all....I will add here that my periods are much more > painful and quite heavy...but from what I have been told, this is not a > problem, it just goes along with having it in...I had it put in at my 6 week > checkup after giving birth to my daughter...I am no longer in need of it, > and want it out to decrease the painful and heavy periods, but since my > insurance will not cover it, it will have to wait until I am able to pay out > of pocket... > > I will add that I have the non-hormonal type, which is basically a small T > that has copper wire wrapped around it with something like fishing line > hanging from the bottom just a few inches out of the uterus...and as > explained to me by the ob/gyn who was the dept head at the university > hospital that put it in, it is the copper wire that actually deters > pregnancy...copper is toxic to sperm...so this is how it works...I cannot > believe the NP could not explain how it works!!! Guest guest
Dear Georgia, More pain and more blood is symptomatic of IUD's. Also, some of them actually make a woman sterile, or set them up for difficult births. Best is still the Wild Yam. Guest guest
Doc - I have had heard that what you say belwo could be a rare occurance the doctor who put it in did tell me this....they can also (again, rarely) puncture the uterus - but not usually after having them in for some time...when I had it put in, I had absolutely no knowledge of herbalism/naturapathy...and I could not afford the other types of birth control at that time... I do, though, have every intention of getting the IUD out just as soon as I have a spare $150 sitting around...that is what I was told it would cost me for removal...but I may call planned parenthood as well to see what they would charge... The birth control issue is nil at this point, so I have no reason to keep the IUD in....and I have no plans for any more children... Thank you very much for the information! I was just telling a friend of mine about using wild yam for birth control, and she is thinking of it as a possibility! The information that is shared on this board is absolutely amazing!! Guest guest
Dear Georgia, It's not as rare as you might think. Again, it's a question of whether or not to trust the Medico's data. Rather than just listening to what they say, I suggest you ask others who've had them and get their opinion of how safe they are. As far as the women I've talked to about it, almost one for one, they made the claim that their periods were heavier and lasted longer. Many of them also complained of more pain during menses. From a purist naturopathic viewpoint, I'm against anything which is "invasive" unless it is an emergency medical procedure of the kind needed in the case of an accident or some other physical disaster.
