Guest guest
Does anyone have any suggestions for a 2 week old baby who has picked up a cold, can't breathe thru his nose and consequently has trouble nursing? Thanks much Sara
Guest guest
You have one of natures greatest healers there for the use! Breastmilk is wonderful for this-- just use it as nose drops, wait a few minutes and suction it out. You might have to repeat. Breastmilk is a wonderful healer, good for colds, eye infections etc. Ramona Quoting sarabraun56 <braun.es: > Does anyone have any suggestions for a 2 week old baby who has picked > up a cold, can't breathe thru his nose and consequently has trouble > nursing? > Thanks much > Sara > > > > Federal Law requires that we warn you of the following: > 1. Guest guest
Im not sure about herbal remedies- if you are nursing the baby you yourself can take extra echinacea, zinc etc. Please watch your baby carefully! My youngest got RSV at 3 weeks and was in the hospital for a week. It was so pitiful to watch them suction him out because the mucus was so thick. Make sure your baby is getting enough to not get dehydrated- if there is any question call your pediatrician. I waited too long and they weren't even able to stick him to test his blood because he was so dehydrated. They ended up putting a port-cath in a vein in his head in case they needed to give meds. It was the most awfullest sight for a hormonal mommy to see. They also ended up doing a menengitis test (which involved a spinal tap- ewwwww), which thankfully they put him to sleep for. Several times his O2 (oxygen saturation level) went down below 50 percent and his little lips turned purple. I hope someone has some good answers for you - I'll follow this thread as well- I dont want you to have to go through what I did. It makes you feel so helpless when your newborns life is in the hands of the medico. --Jamie Messenger with Voice. Make PC-to-Phone Calls to the US (and 30+ countries) for 2¢/min or less. Guest guest
Saline drops are what I used. You can make your own saline nose drops at home: boil and cool 1 cup of distilled water, and add 1/2 teaspoon of fine sea salt. Stir well. Use a dropper, 1 drop each nostril set for a minute then suction out. Worked wonders for my dear darling. I hope the baby is feeling better soon! Oh yeah, and if the baby is not able to nurse well express milk and feed with a spoon or dropper. Vikki
Guest guest
Thank you so much for this information. I will definitely pass it along to my daughter ( who has the baby ). We found a homeopathic formula in a health food store and it seems to be helping somewhat but there's still alot of congestion there. She is nursing the baby and I'm sure she will give it a try. Guest guest
Dear Sara, Even on a 2 week old, you can use minute amounts of herbal remedies. 1 drop of Echinacea Tincture and 1 drop of Total Tonic can make all the difference. Make sure the baby stays warm and give him a couple of nice warm baths throughout the day with plenty of fluids. This will help. Guest guest
Saline drops in the nose should work. Eucalyptus EO could work but you have to find a mild grade that is ok for a newborn.sarabraun56 <braun.es wrote: Does anyone have any suggestions for a 2 week old baby who has pickedup a cold, can't breathe thru his nose and consequently has troublenursing? Thanks muchSara *~*~*Christina *~*~* SAHM to 3 daughters Isabella "the thoughtful one who likes to make fun" Chloe "The energetic one who makes me laugh" Sophie "The 'cute' one who is always thankful" Make free worldwide PC-to-PC calls. Guest guest
I would definately NOT use eucalyptus oil on your newborn. It's very toxic. The best thing for babies and congestion is breastmilk right in the nose. It will help break things up. Express into the nose, or in a bowl then use a dropper. Also, turn the shower on hot and sit in the bathroom with your little one with the door closed and get some steam. Breastmilk is the best remedy for most child related needs. herbal remedies , poncia-myre family <jossverse wrote: > > Saline drops in the nose should work. Eucalyptus is not toxic when used externally although I would never put the oil directly on a baby's face. http://www.ajc.com/health/altmed/shared/health/alt_medicine/ConsHerbs/Eucalyptus\ ch.html Use in a steamer or an aromatherapy diffuser it can be quite effective. I make a chest rub for my older children which I will rub on myself when the babes are little. It contains eucalyptus EO and peppermint EO and has been quite effective with all four of my children. warmly, Stephany
