Guest guest
After the discussion of Wild Yam Root yesterday, I wanted to elaborate about the pros and cons of it and add some more details. So again: There is a little booklet available called, " Wild Yam Root, Birth Control Without Fear " by Willa Catha. She is a midwife in Texas. Willa Catha says that if you take 1600mg of fresh ground Wild Yam Root 2 times per day for 2 complete monthly cycles before it is effective, and continue it 2 times per day everyday thereafter, you cannot get pregnant. You still have to use some other birth control method during the 2 complete cycle waiting period of waiting for the Wild Yam Root to become completely effective. You can stay on the Pill during this time if you are already taking it. You can start taking the Wild Yam Root anytime during your cycle, but starting it in the middle of a cycle does not count as a full cycle. This can mean close to 3 months of waiting for it's effect depending on when you start taking it, so be on the safe side of waiting for it's effectiveness to work. Keep notes of your dates. This 2 times per day dosage (12 hours apart) of 1600mg of Wild Yam Root makes a woman's eggs sterile. It causes a progesterone effect. It is safe for the body. If you want to get pregnant, stop taking it, and in approximately 2 months you will be fertile again. Wild Yam Root powder can be purchased freshly ground from an herb company like http://www.herbspicetea.com Do not buy C/S (cut and sifted). Click on the herb bag " Botanicals by the pound " or " Capsules " and look the herbs up alphabetically to get the links I posted below. Herbspicetea.com does grind it fresh for you the day they send it out to you. The herb looks like small stones in its un-ground form. It has to be ground fresh to get the full potency and you should be able to smell it's freshness and bitterness when you open the bag. You can encapsulate the fresh Wild Yam Root yourself, whether the Mexican or American variety. http://www.herbspicetea.com/scripts/silverware.exe/catalog@d:/elevclie nts/sfherbtea/elevator.prg?SEARCH_RELITEM=C1726 Or, Herbspicetea.com sells 1000 gelatin capsules of Wild Yam Root for $27.30. The convenience is you save the time of encapsulating. I would elect this option if they could tell me they were encapsulated recently (within a month) for potency and were size " 00 " capsule. Do not buy Wild Yam Root as a birth control method if they can't tell you when it was encapsulated. http://www.herbspicetea.com/scripts/silverware.exe/catalog@d:/elevclie nts/sfherbtea/elevator.prg? SEARCH_PAGENO=0 & SEARCH_LETTER=W & CATEGORY=SINGLE So, if it is more cost effective and potent encapsulating it yourself, 1 pound of their American Wild Yam Root powder costs $5.75 and is enough to fill over 1000 capsules. They have gelatin " 00 " capsules costing from $2.75 upward for 100. If you purchase capsules elsewhere, make sure they do not contain urethane. Theirs do not contain it. So the main cost is in the " 00 " capsules. Their encapsulator costs $8.09. I have seen the same one for $12.00 and $15.00. It looks like a plastic square sieve with 50 holes which you each fill with the bottom longer half of an empty size " 00 " capsule. When you encapsulate Wild Yam Root yourself, one " 00 " capsule will contain about 400mg so you take 4 in the morning to get 1600mg, and you take 4 in the evening to get 1600mg. 12 hours apart. In one week you will have taken 56 capsules (8X7), 224 capsules in 4 weeks, or 1 month. 1,344 in 6 months. You spoon the Wild Yam Root over the surface of the capsule-filled encapsulator filling the empty bottom half of the capsule. Tap the encapsulator a couple of times to shake the herb down and then add a bit more herb on top to leave a little mound before you remove the support bar to put the top half of the capsule on. Make sure each capsule is as full as you can get it. You will have 400mg of Wild Yam Root in one " 00 " capsule. I checked the price of Wild Yam Root in a health food store (years ago) and it was $12.00 a bottle for 100 capsules that were machine pressed but I don`t remember their mg amount. You can only encapsulate 50 capsules at once with the 50-hole encapsulator. Putting the top half of the capsule on is the time consuming part that takes about 10 minutes per batch. Your take those finished capsules out of the encapsulator and then encapsulate your next batch. Keep the Wild Yam Root double bagged and cool, and try to get it encapsuled in a month to retain the potency. Always eat when taking the capsules so you don't upset your stomach with the bitterness of Wild Yam Root. Herbspicetea.com want an order over $40.00. One pound of American Wild Yam powder @ $5.75, i.e. 7 bags containing 200 each of size " 00 " vegetarian capsules @$4.50 each which equals $31.50, and an encapsulator @ $8.09 all equal $45.34. Add shipping. This is for 6 months of birth control. If you come short of $40.00 in following orders, you can order more " 00 " capsules, or some other herb you use frequently. I would not order more than 1 pound of Wild Yam Root powder or 1000 capsules at a time just to make sure the powder is potent. If you are taking The Garlic Recipe, take the Wild Yam Root 3 hours apart from the garlic. Vanessa
