Guest guest
Just thought I would send this out to my friends and see what you all think... a good friend of mine sent this to me with a subject line that read " Now we can't even eat salads! what next??? " I emailed her back telling her to try and buy organic, and if she can't do that to at least wash all her produce in 1 part vinegar to 10 parts water with 2 capfuls of peroxide, which is what I do... but isn't it sad how it seems no matter what we do to try and get others to do better, they come back to us telling us they feel screwed no matter what? ---- NBC Dateline did a documentary on cut-up lettuce and spinach packaged in plastic bags. They took us through the whole process and talked about how the Ecoli bacteria is now showing up in the salad mix in bags. They don't know yet how the Ecoli got in, but they do know that deaths and serious sicknesses are occurring in many states. One woman told about how her child was near death from the lettuce and was sick for a long time. They warned us not to buy any bag salads until they find out from the investigation what is causing this contamination. The Dole Company has recalled their bags. See the link below. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/12536902/ Please pass this one on...and perhaps save someone's life. This is really pretty scary. ---- Oddly enough, I have been trying to go organic vegetarian for about a month now, ever since the end of my 21 day MC... Last Friday, my wife took me out to dinner and I got a salad that had a small ammt of chicken on it. The whole thing tasted really funny to me, but I ate it anyway, picking past most of the chicken and just eating the salad, assuming it was just the taste of chicken, because I haven't been eating meat. I joke not, I spent the next 3 days on my HANDS AND KNEES getting deathly sick. I wasn't well enough to SIT UP until today. I am not sure what exactly made me that violently ill, but I have not had a flu bug like that since I was about 8 years old. It's sick how we can't even buy foods without knowing what it is we're actually buying... makes me want to cry! It's like a new form of total imprisonment and I just don't understand how it is even legal! PLEASE be careful out there... Love and Blessings, ~Raaven
Guest guest
I remember reading something about this - sorry, I do not remember where. That the water used to rinse the lettuce before it's packaged may be contaminated or simply not distilled water, and that after the bag is sealed, bacteria can still grow. I no longer buy bagged lettuce and other salad greens pre-packaged. Getting sick is just to high of a price to pay for convenience.
