Guest guest
Organics at WALMART??? Posted by: " Valinda " valkonig valkonig Sat Jul 15, 2006 12:10 pm (PST) This has to be a joke...right? Has anyone else seen the commercials for " organics at Walmart " ....are they just trying to jump on the bandwagon, dummy down " real " organics and sell " Joe public " inferior products with an organic name??? Oh my...Val Back to top Reply to sender | Reply to group | Reply via web post Messages in this topic (1) I live in a very small town that has two grocery stores, one in walmart and a BiLo. There's no dumming down of organics (yet). The products aren't inferior. In fact, they're the same stuff sold everywhere else and around the same price. I was skeptical of Walmart getting into organics but you have to realise that there are people who will never go to Whole Foods. Walmart is catering to their clientele. Personally, if I'm there, I'll buy the organic produce. They have a bigger selection that BiLo. Hopefully they won't dumb down organic standards in terms of changing laws. I do not think the organic industry would allow that to happen.
Guest guest
Sorry about that last message, the baby hit send. \ I had to respond to this statement: " Hopefully they won't dumb downorganic standards in terms of changing laws. I do not think theorganic industry would allow that to happen. This already has happened many times and often the smaller organic companies are unable to stop it. Organic foods are like any other industry and the large companies with more money are able to lobby for lowered standards that would increase their profits. It is very important to support your local organic farmers. Perhaps looking into any CSA farms that are in your area would be a place to start. warmly, Stephany
Guest guest
No problem, I stopped the last message due to its political content. Not that I don't agree 100% of course ;-) but that's between you and me. Guest guest
Couldn't shop at say wal-mart or other large grocery chain, (unfortunately, that is the only place some people have access to organics.), and still support the smaller companies by buying from companies they know are small-ish - and leaving the big boys alone. Guest guest
I agree Stephany, I know I sound like a broken record, BUT if you can’t find or afford eating ‘certified organic’, please try to purchase your veggies, fruits, meats and eggs from a local farmer who doesn’t raise and finish their product like the confinement and feedlot meats you find in the groceries. It actually costs more for a little guy to raise his product with hormones and such so they are not inclined to do so. You are supporting your local farmer who is trying to make a living by feeding you the best they can. There is a new phrase for us little guys out now, since the term ‘certified organic’ is being blown up by the big guys and it is ‘Certified Naturally Grown”. It is basically the same as ‘certified organic’ but without the gov’t guidelines to follow which are sometimes a little inane and lately meaningless. It is a group that polices their own with farmers doing evaluations on other farms on a yearly basis. CSA’s are a good thing too. http://www.LegacyManorFarm.com " The way food used to taste " herbal remedies [herbal remedies ] On Behalf Of Stephany Hoffelt Monday, July 17, 2006 12:20 PM herbal remedies Re: Herbal Remedies - it's no joke (walmart organics) Sorry about that last message, the baby hit send. \ I had to respond to this statement: " Hopefully they won't dumb down organic standards in terms of changing laws. Guest guest
Organic simply means that it was grown without pesticides. In other words pesticide free produce. Clay. Messenger with Voice. Make PC-to-Phone Calls to the US (and 30+ countries) for 2¢/min or less.
