Guest guest
I feel stupid asking this question, but I was raised it the west where there arent many hardwood trees (unless they were planted). When you say black walnut hulls are you talking about the green outer part that is on it when it falls off the tree or the actual hard shell that protects the nutmeat? Also what part of the bark (say in Dr. Christophers recipies) is he talking about. Where Im living at now we have juvinile black walnuts all over the place. The stalks look like really thick weeds and are fuzzy( my 3 yo can snap them off!). Would this be suitable as inner bark or does it have to come off a mature tree (like 3 ft thick). Some of the more mature juvinile trees have a smooth bark on them is this suitable? Also what can be done with the leaves of black walnut? TIA --Jamie
Guest guest
You want to pick the hulls after they fall on the ground. This is the Dark Green Outer Hull that you're interested in. Store them in a brown paper bag out of the light until they turn dark brown / black and hard. Then you can powder them, tincture them, etc. Love, Doc PS. you want to take the bark from only one section of one tree at a time - doesn't matter from where. Chip the bark off rather than "cut" and don't go too deep and injure the tree.
