Guest guest
Hi, First of all I would like to thank everyone for their help with my post about the Crohn's Disease. I gave the info to my friend and she was so happy to receive it. I have a question for the group. I made an herbal salve and an herbal cream out of infusions of blackberry leaf, calendula, comfrey, chamomile, echinacea, eucalyptus, lavender, lemon balm, mint, passion flower, plantain, vit E, Tea tree EO and Rosewood EO. I was trying to come up with a natural way to fight skin infections, abrasions, etc. Someone told me that the salve would just stay on top of the skin and not really be absorbed as well as the cream. I love the cream, but I had to use a preservative with it. So, As far as natural... the salve is much more natural. Is it true that the salve will not be as effective as the cream? How are salves different in the way that they heal different from a cream that you rub on? I would appreciate all feed back on this. Thank-you, Deb
Guest guest
The oils are also absorbed into the skin. It will work well either way. I make my own herbal salves/balms. The difference between the salve and the cream is that you add water and an emulsifier. By the way you don't have to add a perservative to the cream but unless you make very small amounts that will be used quickly (within 3 days), you can refridgerate them and they can last up to 1-2 weeks. The water added to the cream does not help it absorb into the skin. Unless of course you are using petroleum jelly and I doubt you are. Guest guest
Thank-you for your post . I thought that the salve would be effective . But, I guess that this person thought that the cream would be more effective. I grew up with salves and what she was saying just didn't sound right to me .
