Guest guest
When my son was in kindergarten the teacher suggested that I bring him to the dr. because there are medicines like Ritalin to help him be still and quiet in the classroom. I told the teacher that she needed to learn self control. That was 20 years ago. Over the years in trying to figure out what problems my son had we did try ritalin and other meds. I never liked the affects, such as, as soon as it got warm, my son would get very sick. One day at a meeting in the school, I was telling the nurse my concerns with the meds. She made a comment to me that I should NEVER take him off the meds, because these meds will keep him off drugs when he gets older!. Ummm, taking drugs to keep him off drugs???????? I went to the psych and told her what had transpired and though the school was reporting good results I saw none. She looked at me, asked me to trust her, and wrote my son a new prescription and called the school that she was putting my son on a new " experimental " medication that was three times stronger. Nervously I allowed it, and she kept assuring me that what she was putting him on, had no side effects that I would be very happy with it. My gut told me to go with it, glad I did. After 4 weeks of this new " med " and glowing reports from the school, and reports of no more sickness from me. The psych asked for a meeting at the school. After requesting what this new med was and how some other kids would benefit from it, She stood up, told them all they need to quit there jobs because they were a sorry excuses for educators, told them " Sugar Pills! " and walked out. My son though still has problems at the age of 25 takes no meds or drugs for that matter! Guest guest
That is the crux of the problem. The MDs want to put every kid on ritalin or some adhd drug today. They will not consider nutrition, discpline, trying to find out what type of trigger foods are responsible. That is until the kids become adults and then they want to place them all on lipitor/crestor and anti anxiety meds. Doc Shillington has some good articles on ADD and ADHD in his files a must read. AND I AGREE 100% Those disorders are bullcrap. Get on board. You're invited to try the new Mail Beta.
Guest guest
Remember that NYC is the same place that on Easter Sunday announced it was installing 500 video surveillance cameras throughout the metro area in an effort to enhance 'security'. Their chief of police proudly boasted that he would 'enclose the city in a surveillance ring of steel'. It shouldn't be surprising then, that they'd want dossiers on all the kids too. Guest guest
you are not kidding, just went to the alternative education resource organization conference and it was great bought so many enlighting and empowering books. the one i've got now is the underground history of american education by john Taylor Gatto, the teacher who taught for like thirty years, won teacher of the year three times in both new york city and state but wrote an article in the wall street journel about how he couldn't hurt children anymore and quit to start an alternative education revolution... intense... i heard him speak this past June 29th in new york, very moving.. the whole system has to be restructured and now i know how to help, and will in my corner, my community to create options here as well. i am starting my own school this year. his website is http://www.johntaylorgatto.com/. he is working on a documentary now challenging modern schooling.. crabtail In a message dated 7/13/2006 11:01:47 A.M. Guest guest
Doc: That is great: I have seen many kids turn out succesful because DAD spent time (a lot of time) with him/her. Also, it sounds like when your kid goes to college, he will be cool with eating more natural foods instead of pizza, wings, gyros etc. Also, I cannot even discuss TV in detail without using very nasty adjectives. The avg American spends more time in front of the idiot box and today's kids are either in front of the TV or computer games and are obese. I see one major problem with the country: All the eateries are becoming chains (TGIF, Applebees, chilis etc) and the foods are really bad. I had a neighbor in the 90s who worked at the nestle/stouffer plant in OH and she was telling me that what they produce there is most of the foods for TGIFS Applebees etc. (In other words, many of the entrees are frozen TV dinners that are microwaved and brought out). Guest guest
Yup! That's about the way it goes. In Health, Freedom, and Love, Doc Doc Shillington727-447-5282Doc - Pam Anderson herbal remedies Wednesday, July 12, 2006 12:27 PM Re: Herbal Remedies - Where do schools get off When my son was in kindergarten the teacher suggested that I bring him to the dr. because there are medicines like Ritalin to help him be still and quiet in the classroom. She looked at me, asked me to trust her, and wrote my son a new prescription and called the school that she was putting my son on a new "experimental" medication that was three times stronger. Nervously I allowed it, and she kept assuring me that what she was putting him on, had no side effects that I would be very happy with it. My gut told me to go with it, glad I did. After 4 weeks of this new "med" and glowing reports from the school, and reports of no more sickness from me. The psych asked for a meeting at the school. After requesting what this new med was and how some other kids would benefit from it, She stood up, told them all they need to quit there jobs because they were a sorry excuses for educators, told them "Sugar Pills!" and walked out. My son though still has problems at the age of 25 takes no meds or drugs for that matter! Guest guest
Yup!!! Doc Shillington727-447-5282Doc - tony vergilatis herbal remedies Thursday, July 13, 2006 9:30 AM Re: Herbal Remedies - Where do schools get off Doc: That is great: I have seen many kids turn out succesful because DAD spent time (a lot of time) with him/her. One of the nice things about owning and operating an Herbal Manufacturing business is that you can set it up and operate it from anywhere. When my son turned 13, my wife and I bought a ranch in New Mexico that was 80 miles from nearest city. We spent the next 3 years hunting, fishing and learning all of the outdoor skills, that will be with him for the rest of his life. Along with this education, he learned a reverence for Life and a respect for Death. Guest guest
---Awesome book!!! I read it when if first came out (bought a prepublication book). I LOVE John Taylor Gatto. His writings are phenomenal, down-to-earth common sense. We unschool/homeschool. Have been at it for 13+years and wish I had started 25 years ago!!!! Schools are evil places for all kids. (I base this on the " agenda " behind schools, especially the Outcome Based Education (OBE) movement that is affective (values-based education) and not effective (academic-based education). Almost every state (if not all by now) have adopted OBE in their state. Ohio adopted OBE in 1991. Our childrens' emotionall well-being is so important. Schools can cause emotional problems in many kids. Guest guest
this has been about 10 years ago, but when my best friend's daughter (who was about 7 at the time) was diagnosed with ADD, my friend also refused to put her on medication. instead, she removed ALL preservatives from her diet and within 2 weeks she had a DRAMATICALLY changed child (granted - it wasn't an easy thing to do, but was well worth the effort). from that time on her daughter has been able to concentrate and to this day, her grades are all A's (going from failing before that). just thought i'd share this in case anyone would be interested in trying this method. herbal remedies , Yvette LaPort <pylaport wrote: I totally agree, my daughters teacher recommended we take my daughter to a psych to get the add work up done. Guest guest
That's why we home school. Who needs some adult thinking and telling your normal active child there is something wrong with them? We also don't immunize and the couple of times we have had the kids in school, (my middle son went in k and 1st) They have really given us heck and the school nurse hated me. I thought it was funny.
