When I read back through my post this morning, it sounded as if my

only problem about this is dealing with the messy pants. Not so.

Although I'd rather not have to handle that part of it just because, I

really want my kids to be healthy, not have to rely on something like

miralax, and take away their worry that something will happen at

school or with their friends.

My sister also has kids with bowel problems, but she has regulated it with pear juice. Her kids have had this problem since birth. She also has miralax on hand for when it really hits the fan, but she rarely uses it.

Shelby,

Does she make (juice) this or buy it?

Hi Laura,

I was pretty sure you weren't so concerned about the mess, but about what's

causing the problem :)

Have your boys ever had a good allergy test, especially food allergies to

things like wheat, gluten, dairy, corn, soy and nuts? Sometimes they can

cause these types of problems.

Herbal Remedies - Kids with bowel problems

Been awhile since I've posted. Both my boys have bowel problems-

younger boy, 7 yo, is constipated in spite of a healthy diet. Could

drink more water, though. He had a brain hemorrhage as an infant and

has hydrocephalus which is mostly non-symptomatic. I think his

intestinal issues are related to that, though. He will go almost a

week without a bowel movement, then have a huge one. He also wears

pull ups at night and has some wetting issues during the day.

My older son is 9 and has been diagnosed with encopresis, which I am

not sure about. He will have several movements during the day, but

will also have accidents in his pants. During times of stress it has

happened in school, which is very difficult for a 3rd grade child. The

dr has recently prescribed miralax, which she said he should be on for

many months. These are very troubling problems. I try to be supportive

and not get upset, but it seems as though I am handling more " poop

issues " than when my kids were infants. Anyone have any help or

insights into these issues? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Laura

She tried to make it, but it is hard to

strain it into a liquid, I’ll ask her if it has to be strained for older

kids. She buys it from fred meyer.
