So when folks mention the possibility ofsilver joining to other substances/minerals andforming some kind of compound, it seems important tome to keep our perspective, especially for the sake ofthe new folks who don’t yet know enough to haveadequate perspective.1. Silver in ANY form is lethal to most pathogens. It’s been clearly substantiated in laboratory testingthat silver-chloride kills pathogens. So doessilver-nitrate, silver-citrate, etc. So the concernabout silver forming various compounds with substancesin our water, filter paper, etc., are unrelated to theeffectiveness of CS.2. Argyria. Yes, silver compounds of various typeshave been shown to have the potential to causeargyria, the only known danger to silver abuse, butonly when ingested/inhaled in VERY LARGE quantities, quantities difficult or even impossible for us toingest (we don’t inhale), given the type of CS weproduce (10-20 ppm). Even some of the conservativegov’t estimates of the amount of silver needed topossibly cause argyria require a daily ingestion ofGALLONS of 20 ppm CS. Yet I see people afraid to drinktoo much CS when it’s not even possible with ourhome-brewed, extremely dilute versions.Keep in mind, folks, silver is just a mineral, and CSis mineral water. It’s not a drug or toxic chemicalthat you must be careful about. You never see anyoneafraid to drink too much Perrier water because of theminerals in it, in fact, they drink it to GET theminerals in it. But Perrier or other “Spring” waterproducts have far higher levels of the minerals thatare in them than we have silver in what we brew. Our concern over the interaction of silver with otherminerals/substances (forming compounds, etc.) is alsotrue about every other mineral as well. Are weconcerned about the possibility of calcium or zinc oriron forming compounds with other minerals or beingaffected by our stomach acid? They all do the samething silver does, you know. But we correctly assumeour body knows how to process the minerals we ingestand utilize them where/as they are needed. The same istrue of the mineral silver. I’ve found two doctors inthe US who insist that silver is an essential mineralthat our bodies NEED, just like iron or selenium, andthat a deficiency of silver contributes to poorhealth. CS should be treated like a supplement, notlike a medicine.I have drunk 12+ oz/day of 15-20 ppm CS for six yearsnow, and apart from a hint of blue under the base ofmy fingernails (it was always darker there anyway, andthe ‘blue’ comes and goes), the only affect ofgenerous ingestion of CS is very rare sickness in myfamily. My daughters also ingest generous quantitiesof CS every day because I put CS in everything it’spossible to put it in – soup, juice, milk, coffee, herbal tea, any recipe that calls for liquid (but noyeast), even the ice cubes for our summer drinks. Howoften does anyone in my family get sick? Maybe onceper year, if that much.Being a purist about CS production is fine, as long asone doesn’t come to the conclusion that one needs tobe a purist in order for CS to be safe or effective. Iam a purist myself, in that I only make crystal clearCS, but that is because I sell it to HF stores, pharmacies and the general public, and my trade-markis crystal clear CS. Periodically I goof and brew a10-gallon batch of yellow/gold CS. My family and Idrink that stuff, and save the clear stuff to sell.I have used “Oxygen-purified” coffee filters for sixyears now, because if I don’t there are occasionallybits of black silver-oxide floating around in thewater. I personally don’t mind the specks because Iknow they are harmless, but the general public objectsto black specks in their CS. Is it possible for thesilver to form compounds with substances in the coffeefilter paper? Yep. Is it possible to get argyria fromthose compounds? Yes, but not before I had alreadykilled myself from too much water. Are these potentialcompounds less effective than pure silver? Not that Iam aware of. Silver does what silver does, whetheraccompanied by other minerals or not. And when youconsider that we are putting the silver into a stomachthat is already full of many, many other minerals(stomach acid, food minerals, etc.), it seems a bitsilly to me to be concerned too much about tiny bitsof this and that. The only substances I would beconcerned about mixing silver with would be those thatI would be concerned about putting in my body in thefirst place, i.e., toxins and poisons. This stuff is safe, folks, you don’t need to becareful with it. OK, don’t brew coffee-colored CS anddrink a pint of that each day for years. Have somebasic, common sense. Make it clear or light yellow, drink it freely, use distilled water instead of tap orspring water, use pure, Fine silver instead ofSterling silver, don’t use salt to ‘spike’ it. Don’tstore it in soft, white milk-jug plastic – use glassor soda-pop plastic. Brew it as long as you want butstop just before it turns yellow. (Although, somefolks like yellow.) Use whatever voltage you want, there is no perfect voltage. The higher voltage youuse, the faster your CS will brew, but the more likelyit will turn color. There, the above paragraph sums up all you need toknow to be safe. As long as it’s clear, drink asfreely as you want without fear. Use it everywhere andin everything (although, your cake and bread won’trise!), freely, generously, and watch as yourself andyour family stops catching colds, flu, etc.Terry Chamberlin, B.Sc., C.N.C., BioanalystMetabolic Solutions InstituteLawrencetown, Nova Scotia B0S 1M0 Canada902-584-3810msibio
